Since the publication of Magic Stack-n-Whack Quilts, quilters around the world have echoed this sentiment. Quilters have discovered wonderful hidden possibilities in their print fabrics, using a simple method of rotary cutting stacked repeats to create unique kaleidoscope effects. The thorough step-by-step directions and illustrations for each project made the Stack-n-Whack method easy, even for beginning quilters. Many quilters have found the process so exciting that they can't stop with just one project.
Now, with Stack-n-Whackier Quilts, quilters have a cornucopia of new designs to try. The projects include intriguing geometric designs with three-dimensional illusions; representational quilts with butterflies, fans, and flowers; spectacular star blocks; and formal designs with classic appeal. There are new designs featuring the Mirror-Image Trick, which creates exciting effects with no extra fabric or work. The Stack-n-Select section introduces methods for using novelty prints, border stripes, and other special prints that show to best advantage with more controlled cutting. These techniques allow quilters to selectively cut identical pieces efficiently and accurately.
Stack-n-Whackier Quilts guides readers on the path to fun and fantastic quilts. Color photographs show each step in the stacking process. Yardage and cutting charts for each project keep the math to a minimum. The blocks feature simple construction, with no set-in seams or curves. Hundreds of detailed piecing illustrations accompany the block instructions. Each project includes specific quilting notes, to help answer the inevitable question, How should I quilt this?. A general information section includes instructions for rotary cutting all shapes used in the book, as well as tips for machine piecing, appliqué, pressing, and binding.
Newcomers to Stack-n-Whack will find this an exciting addition to their quiltmaking adventures. Seasoned Stack-n-Whack fans will only wonder which project to try first!

This review is from: Stack-n-Whackier Quilts (Another Magic Stack-n-Whack(tm) Book) (Paperback)
This is the first "stack n whack" book that I've purchased. I bought it because of the butterfly quilt pattern, but there are many other projects that will catch your eye and send you running to the fabric store! The basic principle of this technique is to utilize the repetition of patterns within fabric in a consistent way to create "kaleidoscopic" effects in your quilt design. It does take a little careful reading to understand the technique, and how the "dynamics" of the fabric will matter to the design, but the book has very good directions, and great photos. All in all there are 12 designs which demonstrate 3 different techniques: The variability in the appearance that can be achieved through the use of one fabric and this technique is amazing. I can't wait to start my first project!

The projects in this book are very well documented as tohow to pick out fabric and how to cut it to get the dramatic effects for these projects. Very clear directions with lots of pictures to guide you in assembly. You must have a basic quilting knowledge and be willing to put in the extra time to turn out these quality projects. A beautiful book for someone who wants beautiful projects that are a little more challenging.

This book continues with Bethany's wonderful methods of transforming fabric into great kaleidoscopic blocks. The directions are extremely well written for use, even by people who have never done Stack&Whack quilt blocks before. I love the new shapes that Bethany is using, since I can use smaller amounts of my fabrics with some of the easier shapes. I'll be amazing my friends soon with some more wonderful quilts from these patterns!!
