Surprisingly, this was a very funny show. Its episodes were well-written and Pamela was quite comedic. Not suprisingly, the network cancelled the show. It seems that if a good show doesn't rate in the Top Ten during its first airing, it's immediately dropped off the list. Very, very sad for TV shows... Note to networks: this is why I don't watch much television.

Didn't think I liked Pam Anderson,

This review is from: Stacked - The Complete Series (DVD)
I avoided this (and VIP, and ...) because they had Pam Anderson in them. Not that I had anything against her, per se, but I have a penchant for avoiding things done by media stars, like, her, Britney, Christina, Paris, ad nauseum. In my past experiences, these folks have been much ado about nothing.
Still, in my search for the funniest (either intentionally or unintentionally) movie ever made I came across this series, and, having loved Blacks Books decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did. This show is hilarious. Pam is very funny, with a good sense of comedic timing, and is the butt (pun intended) of most of the jokes. The supporting (another pun) cast is very good, headed by Christopher Lloyd who is, as usual, brilliant. After enjoying this I moved on to VIP, which is also very good. Who would have guessed?

Pam's Folly,

Pamela Anderson's poke at herself, intelligence and literature is in full bloom with the complete series of Stacked.
Anderson plays Skyler Dayton who is a groupie/party girl who gets a job at a small coffeehouse book store run by two brothers Gavin (a failed author) and Stuart (an oversexed , lazy do-nothing). Their coffee clerk Katrina rounds out the staff. This short lived series was a cute sitcom with Anderson playing a stereotype of herself. With mismatched pairing of Elon Gold and Brian Scalaro are the two odd couple owners, thjey seem to play straight man to Anderson. Marissa Jaret Winokur steals every scene she is in as the coffe clerk Katrina. Rounding out the cast is Christopher Lloyd (yes, Back to the Future's Doc Brown) as the book store's favorite patron, a Retired Rocket Scientist. With all the televised episodes and five unaired episodes, this show is cute. It does not play down to the audience. Too Bad FOX TV again missed the mark and didnt give the cute show a real chance. It died before it found an audience Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD

Book smarts galore.,

I enjoyed each of Stacked's 19 episodes (five of which Fox never aired), which run about 22 minutes in length. The box says 416 minutes total.(not including extras).
Each of the episodes, including the five unaired episodes had many good one-liners that made me laugh out loud several times, so repeat viewing should still offer enough enjoyment to make this a worthy purchase for fans of relaxing good hearted sit-coms,even if you're not a big fan of Pam Anderson. For example, the unaired episode ("The Third Date") about Harold's (Christopher Lloyd) daughter is very well written and laugh out loud funny! If you don't laugh at this episode you probably have no pulse. As well, Paget Brewster (of Huff and now Criminal Minds) reprises her role as Gavin's (Elon Gold) ex-wife in the unaired episodes and Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra appear in an episode each, of those episodes that already aired on Fox. Everything is shown in 1.78:1 widescreen, but with your DVD player's zoom feature, you can easily fill the screen and not miss too much of the outer edge visuals,if you so desire. The audio is in fine 2.0 channel stereo surround and white subtitles are included for each episode(English or Spanish). There are 3 discs, two fit in one case and the third in the other. There is a different picture of Pam posing in fishnet stockings and a short skirt on each case. Too much information...perhaps. DVD Extras: - There is a 5 minute blooper reel that is quite funny and it's filled with swearing in many of the scenes. Luckily, NO bleeps are present. Some deleted scenes appear to be mixed in with this blooper reel as well, and there is no separate section for deleted scenes, so the few that are here are all you get. -Nipplegate (7 minutes) just features the costume designer on the show, as well as showing some of the clothes worn by the cast mixed in with actual scenes from the series and explains how there's not much you can do to cover up Pam's nipples. They're just there and they all just have to live with it. Yes, life is full of small sacrifices. It's an okay feature, though nothing to write home about. -The 10 minute Skylar's(Pam Anderson's character) Guide to Dating extra is just a rather useless showcase of 30 second clips from 13 of the episodes that all deal with dating. All are taken from the episodes, so there is nothing extra added and they could have easily found something better to show than this rehash of clips. NOTE: Although this website lists a Dvd Extra called the Pam Cam, it is NOWHERE to be found in this DVD box set,nor is it listed anywhere, so perhaps this is something that they initially planned to include but then failed to follow through with it. Too bad. It sounded interesting. So, with plenty of clever writing, many good one-liners, fairly decent storylines and of course the glorious Pam Anderson, this series is a good choice for those looking for a simplistic, yet well written and enjoyable comedy series, sure to keep a constant smile on your face while you're watching it.

I'm sure the feminists will criticize "Stacked" as simply an effort to exploit Pam Anderson's sexuality, but the reality is that the series is actually quite funny, and the writers behind "Stacked" should be commended for the deeper, more meaningful, comedy they accomplished beyond the lead character.

For the life of me I don't know why this show was cancelled by FOX since it was one of the funniest and freshest shows on TV. The cast meshes well together, the lines are timed well, and even when theres a minor mistake or miscue they still manage to carry things off. Besides being one of the most beautiful women in the world Pamela Anderson performs comedy wonderfully. The DVD quality is great and you'll see things details that you couldn't see on TV (wink)! The extras and unaired episodes in the boxed set are worth the cost of this package alone especially if you're a Pamela fan. FOX, please bring this show back!

A wonderful and cute comedy, it should have stayed on t.v.
I could watch this any time, and certainly every week. There's nothing like this on t.v. now. "Stacked" was different, it had its own humor. Take off some of the crap that's on now, and put this back on. Pam, you and the others did a wonderful job, this sitcom was great!!

This sitcom is so cute, funny and enjoyable. Why do the networks cancel these very watchable shows and put junk on TV?? The comic timing and story lines on this series are chock full of laughs. Pamela Anderson is very talented at using her best qualities and humor to make this show work to the nth degree.. Unfortunate it was cancelled.

You Can't Judge a Bookstore by it's Cover-girl...,

The main set of the show is a bookstore/coffeeshop owned by the Miller brothers called The Stacks. One of the brothers hires a scantily dressed blonde who is trying to change her hard partying ways. Enter Pamela Anderson.
This two season comedy series allowed Pamela Anderson to concentrate her comedic abilities by playing Skyler Dayton a party girl who wants to settle down. This was a hilarious show with a great cast that complimented one another. |
