Editorial Reviews

Stackridge performed to a sold out audience in Bath, England during April 2007 their commitment to touring the UK. Angel Air were there to film this historic gig. The evening was quite memorable for the set the band played but also for the fact that the concert also heralded the return to the stage of Mutter Slater, who had always commanded audience attention and participation in the past. The fans were not disappointed and this DVD documents the whole affair.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stackridge fans rejoice! May 28, 2008

I first heard Stackridge around 1974 when a local FM free-form station played the album, "Man In The Bowler Hat" in it's entirely, back when radio could still do that. I remember liking this music quite well - it was quite Beatlesque- and then, just a few years back, downloaded the track "The Last Plimsoul" and had fond recollections of hearing the song back in '74. So, discovering that the band had reformed for a couple of albums and had recorded this video last year, I decided to get it. This is quite a nice performance from these Brits who never quite made it commercially-speaking, sad to say. Maybe their sound was just a little too British, a little too quirky, and a more-than-a-bit too Beatlesque for their time but for someone looking for that type of sound in 1974, they were just about perfect. I am very happy I bought this DVD, which is basically the guys (& 2 young female violinists) playing their best-known tracks through the years including a couple of performances of Korgis tracks (James Warren & Andy Davis side project around the late 70's), including one of my favorite songs of all time, "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime". (Only one minor complaint - the lead guitarist here, who is not an original Stackridge member, is great and is too far off to the side & background - he should have been more up front, I think.) Included as a bonus on the DVD is a nearly-45 min. interview of Warren, Walters, Davis & Slater, as well as a bonus video of "Something About The Beatles". One wishes this band could have been well-known and they very likely would have been had they produced a couple of strong radio singles in the mid-70's. At any rate, they're still with us and still have the magic, and for fans of their music, this DVD is truly a great event. For those not familiar with Stackridge but are fans of Paul McCartney, John Lennon, 10cc, and lovers of great hooky melodies, you should really like the performances on this DVD.
