Magnificent Representation of a Very Special Place, May 19, 2003

This review is from: Staffa:Fingals Cave (Island tributes) (Paperback)
Illustrated with a delightful assortment of sketches, photographs, prints, engravings, and historical paintings, this booklet provides the reader with an aesthetic experience rarely found in a guidebook. Its scope is wide, from information on the geological and natural history to practical matters of accessing the island. As an added treat, literary and musical references are cited which were the result of visits to Fingal's Cave - agreeably one of nature's wonders. I was especially excited to see information on the long discontinued King George V day-steamer which I took many decades ago; it was unable to stop at Fingal's Cave due to the swells. Recently, while on a pilgrimage to Iona, I was able to make this long awaited trip. Being able to read the guide beforehand made the experience exceptionally meaningful and having it as a souvenir of my visit to the island makes it a treasure that I re-visit time and again. A quality presentation with an artistic flair. Recommended for anyone who anticipates a visit to Staffa or who would like specialized information on this unique site.
