5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for beginners in the world of costumes and sewing!, April 7, 2004
By
Hannah (Rhode Island) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stage Costume: Step By Step (Paperback)
STAGE COSTUME is a great beginner's guide to both the world of period costuming and costume sewing techniques. It's a very visual book, which I find MOST helpful, featuring drawings, diagrams, and photographs of costumes sorted by major periods and genres. Each costume project (kimono, Greek, Elizabethan, Puritan, Restoration, 1920s, boned corset, and more! Over 50 in all) is explained in terms of shape. Also mentions accessories that will be needed, and recommended fabrics and techniques.
I do wish their was more information on each dress style and period, but for a starting point, this book is a _great_ resource. It breaks seemingly huge sewing projects down into easy to follow steps.
All in all this is great book, and highly recommended!

This is a wonderful book! I have been sewing costumes for years and when I read this book, the author made "designing" your own patterns so simple. I was able to design completely from a photo in this book, a doublet for my 1 1/2 year old son for the renaissance faire! Wonderful book! You will reference it on many, many occassions!

Excellent, easy to follow instructions. The costumes are made of everyday items and realistic in appearance and easy to assemble. Nicely done.
