I should start this review by confessing that I am not a particular fan of OnStage Stands products. I have had two of them (adjustable keyboard bench and PA speaker stand cup) fail catastrophically - break under load- that could have caused serious injury or death.

I bought this piece to accommodate the wide variety of mics that I have accumulated for different recording tasks. Having this clutch makes it faster to change mics and get the mic positioned where I want it.

Because it's inexpensive, the manufacturer delivers a product at a price rather than something that's tough enough to take the kind of pounding it would get if it were being used by a live band. I am not contending that it would fail for certain if you try to use it with a live band, but as you know some musicians respect gear and care for it and others not so much.

Because of its irregular shape, it would probably be transported either left on the end of the stand or thrown into a general box of mic stuff. If you did that it wouldn't take too many trips before the threads on the male end got damaged. I could also see it not being tightened enough to keep it from coming apart. If you plan to use it for live applications you might be able to make it last if you protect it properly. That is, unless your lead singer thinks he's playing with Aerosmith.

Useful product and well made, gives me a bit more options when providing a PA system for live bands.Would buy again
