Rory's Most Electrifying Live Record,
This review is from: Stage Struck (Audio CD)
A good percentage of Gallagher fans will agree with me that Rory's magic was most evident during his live performances and related live recordings. "Stagestruck" is less blues-tinged than his other live efforts. This album is fueled by the energy of rockers like "Shinkicker", "Moonchild" and "Bad Penny". The version of "Last of the Independents" is probably worth the price of the CD alone. His guitar work is ambitious and emotional. I recommend all of Rory's live work, but this is my favorite.

Great Performances, Questionable Editing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Stage Struck (Audio CD)
This disc features guitar genius Rory Gallagher at his best, in a typically dynamic set featuring some of his best songs. As always, Rory and the band are in fine form. However, I must concur with the reviewer from East Glenville on one major point. There is only one basic problem with this disc, which is that poor editing has removed Rory's spoken introductions from some tracks, and on "Shadow Play" (one of Rory's best rockers), the song simply fades out, an unsatisfactory ending to a great song. It would be nice to have a restored version of this disc; both Rory and his material deserve it. Notwithstanding that, the performances here are typical of the genius of Rory Gallagher, perhaps the most underrated artist of all time

Rory at his best,but...,

In actuality I would rate this CD 4and1/2 stars. I agree with the above reviews. I had the pleasure of seeing Rory on Septmber 12, 1979 only a few months before the tour from which these tracks are taken. His performances brought me back 21 years to Hartford Ct. and how awestruck I was being a part of his performance. The reason for my rating has to do with the way each song roughly transitions to the next without any build up and without hearing Rory introduce the songs as he did so well with his polite Irish charm:"Here's another song you might like... My biggest disappointment however is how at the end of the last song Shadow Play, the song slowly fades out while Rory is still playing. The song may have gone on for another 30 seconds or more. It's the crowd that should have been fading out after Rory left the stage. Otherwise I am happy to own the definitve live Rory Gallagher performance

I'd Give It Six Stars If I Could!,

I've waited years for this to become available on CD. This is one of the greatest live rock albums of all time. I'm not kidding. Every track is a winner with Gallagher and his rhythm section of McKenna and McAvoy absolutely burning a hole in any CD player! This is rock and roll blues energy that should come with a radioactive sticker. Anybody who never saw the late Rory G live missed something very special. He had that rare combination of chops, soul and energy laced with more than his share of Irish charm and twinkle that made him a popular music treasure for all time. I strongly urge you to buy this album, d'you hear me!

I saw Rory in E. Lansing also, at the State Theatre. He was about 90 minutes late getting on-stage. The crowd was pretty ... off, since our buzz was wearing off. Right before he came on-stage, the MC announced the reason for the delay. Someone stole most of his PC equipment. Anyway, Rory and his band came out, and without saying anything about the theft of his equiptment, went right into "Messin With The Kid". For the next 90 minutes we were all on out feet, cheering this tremendous guitarist, singer, and songwriter. This concert is still the best live experience I have had. If you enjoy blues-based rock you must check out Rory Gallagher. We all miss him.

Underrated master,

This album catches Rory at his heaviest, the solos in Moonchild show what an underrated genius this man was. A must for RG fans! As we say on the football terraces in England "You can stick Eric Clapton up your arse!"

Rory's way to play Stratocaster,is unique,a great, phenomenal performance that reveal all the strong of rock'n roll, until the beginning of 80's,when he toured with this sensational band. Really a great album,a masterpiece, not to be forgotten,anywhere...!!!! If you not know who's Rory Gallagher, this album will show you all the work of this giant guitarman!!!!

Beware: There are no slow songs or blues tracks here-it's full throttle all the way. This was recorded during the era where he did not have anyone on keyboards-1979 and 1980. If you like Rory's hard and fast side, this is for you. The 2 bonus tracks "Keychain" and "Follow Me" are great additions. At first I was going to find someone selling the LP on ebay because I collect records. But the bonus tracks made me glad I got the CD.

Great songs but the sound is horrible. I only listened to it once. Also bought Live in Europe. That would have been so nice if the sound wasn't so bad
