5.0 out of 5 stars "The King of B-Westerns & Serials...VCI Entertainment ~ Stagecoach Buckaroo (1942)", January 19, 2006
This review is from: Stagecoach Buckaroo [VHS] (VHS Tape)
VCI Entertainment and Universal Pictures present "Stagecoach Buckaroo" (1942) (digitally remastered), in this last of the long running Johnny Mack Brown series turned out in the early '40s for Universal studios...our story opens as our hero Johnny Mack Brown and is sidekick Fuzzy Knight are out on the tral getting breakfast together...Glenn Strange and his gang of outlaws are holding up the stage, there is a runaway and Johnny Mack is mistaken for one of the outlaws...after Nell O'Day clears Brown of any wrong doing her father Henry Hall hires him as a stagecoach guard to trap the outlaws...disguised as female passengers Fuzzy and others come up with some of the best belly laughs you've ever seen, puts "drag" into a new light back in '42...listen to the songs from Fuzzy and The Guardsmen Quartet, but then things get pretty lively with hard riding, shoot outs and just plain bar room brawls...plenty of excitement...Nell O'Day proves once and for all she's the best horsewomen on the Universal lot....just remember double thrills, chills, mystery and suspense...hitting the bull's eye with excitement...don't miss any of Johnny Mack Brown's Double Features loaded with action that will leave you wanting more of his B-Western adventures.

Under director Ray Taylor, associate producer Will Cowan, screenplay by Al Martin, based on an original story "Shotgun Messenger" by Arthur St. Claire, musical director H. J. Salter ...the cast include Johnny Mack Brown (Steve Hardin), Fuzzy Knight ( Clem Clemmons), Nell O'Day (Molly Denton), Anne Nagel (Nina Kincaid), Herbert Rawlinson (Bill Kincaid), Glenn Strange (Lead henchman), Ernie Adams (Henchman Blinky), Henry Hall (Joseph Denton), Lloyd Ingraham (Ezra Simpson), Frank Brownlee (Higgins (prospector)), Jack C. Smith (Sheriff), Harry Tenbrook (Guard wearing dress), Blackie Whiteford (Guard wearing dress), Kermit Maynard (henchman) . . . . . .first special footnote, Fuzzy Knight was the sidekick with his comical ways in many B-Westerns in the '30s & '40s with Johnny Mack Brown and Tex Ritter, finally landing a co-starring role with Buster Crabbe on the small tube in the TV series "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion" (1955) as Private Fuzzy Knight. . . . . . . . .second footnote is actor Glenn Strange was always the heavy or badman in over 200 films and 50 TV episodes...appeared in horror films as the monster in "House of Frankenstein" (1944), "House of Dracula" (1945) and "Bud Abbott & Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948)...then on the classic TV western "Gunsmoke", as Sam the bartender from Fall '61 until his death 9/20/1973 at the age of 74.............check out this and more in a new book "Best of the Badmen" by Boyd Magers, Bob Nareau and Bobby Copeland, available from Amazon and Empire Publishing. . . pick up your copy today........the final special footnote actor Johnny Mack Brown had a long film association with producer A.W. Hackel in a series of B-Westerns for Universal Pictures, many directed by Ray Taylor...A. William Hackel also produced a series of Bob Steele B-Westerns........meanwhile this is an exciting Johnny Mack Brown western provided by Universal Pictures during their heyday of the early '40s.
