This is a nice solder station, works very well, but I want to warn any other prospective buyers not to buy the Stahl Tools SSRT 4-Piece Soldering Tip Kit for STSSVT that's listed with this item, they are the wrong tips! This station uses the Stahl Tools TSRT 4-Piece Soldering Tip Kit for TCSS. I made the mistake of buying the one listed under the section: Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought. My bad.

Item was delivered 2 days ahead of estimated date. Station is the best soldering iron I have used. Hope it lasts a long time. As the previous review says be careful what replacement tips you buy. The ones listed as a package with this station are not the correct ones.

Bought this from Parts Express about a year ago. Worked great for awhile. It heated quickly and provided lots of heat. Then a resistor at the R3 position on the board burned up and it stopped working. BTW: The resistor is question is a 0.33Ohm - 2 Watt. I'm replacing with a 5W ceramic, which I hope will hold up.

I was excited to be using this soldering station.. used it a couple times without a problem. I changed the tip to solder up a car audio harness, then the main unit started smoking out of the vents. I quickly shut it off.. great.. now I cant use it. I use a Weller at work every day without problem. This was a good deal but in hindsight it not so much.

This unit works great for me, but the tip is stuck so I can't replace it. It gets used very casually once or twice per week for small hobby jobs. I only paid about $30 for the iron, and purchased 5 sets of extra tips at the same time. I swapped out the stock tip immediately. Luckily, that tip is still good because it's stuck on the unit. Using brute force to try and remove the tip, I ended up pulling the heating element out, ripping the wires. I was able to solder them back (using an old back up unit) and salvage this soldering iron. It will work for most jobs where a medium size tip is used. Once the tip is done, I'll throw the whole thing in the trash.

Due to the price I paid for this ($30 at the time) it's hard to complain about. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS AT FULL PRICE - AT ALL. For a little more than the listed price, you can get into a much nicer soldering iron than this one with tips that can actually be replaced.

I'm going to pick up a Weller or Hakko. The only reason I give this two stars is that I feel like I've gotten my $30 out of this iron. If I paid full price, I would have given it only one star.

Used it a few times and it was working great. Turned it on and smoke came rolling out of the main unit. Returning it for a refund.

Only used it a couple of times but seems to work great. Pretty quick warm up time & solders nicely - it is what it is and I'd buy it again if needed, Just remember to order extra tips - Stahl Tools TSRT 4-Piece Soldering Tip Kit for TCSS so you have them if needed ( I have not found these locally so they are something to keep extras of for me ).
Overall a great iron to have - variable temp is great when working with different size wiring . If it had a digital display I'd give it the fifth star but then it would also cost a lot more lol

Update
NOW 18 months later and still going GREAT quick to heat up and makes soldering a breeze.

I've used it 20-30 times and it is really quite nice. I am comparing to a much cheaper single-temp soldering iron.
