The 21 long handle and 5 long applicator size can be used out of a one gallon stain can like a brush however it holds more stain and is able to complete a larger surface area faster. To use, partially submerge the applicator into a half full stain can and press excess stain on the inside wall of the can. The rim of the can be used also to squeegee excess stain from applicator. A one-gallon paint screens also works well. This handy stain applicator navigates vertically, horizontally and even inverted! Works 2 x faster on spindles than a brush.
