This book presents the fundamental techniques of working with stained glass and is intended for those getting started in the craft. Excellent color photographs and diagrams show materials and tools, as well as the cutting, assembling, and soldering of glass items. The projects, created by crafters Mitchell and Ward, include hanging glass panels, boxes, and lamps. All have pattern diagrams and technical tips for construction but no step-by-step instructions. This is a good book for use with classes of beginning glass crafters.

I purchased this and several other introductory stained glass guides. This is by far the best of all of them that I purchased. It is very simple to follow, details common pitfalls and mistakes (for the most part though there are still many tricks of the trade that could've been highlighted better -- black backings for foil, how to hang and install completed panels, etc.) and includes a broad variety of up-to-date project styles. The pictures in the book are great and include projects that are intended to help the beginner build his/her skills -- and NOT as a vanity display of the authors' works (like I have seen in other texts). For me, the book tells probably 90% of what I needed to know to do stained glass-- the rest, as I've discovered, you simply have to figure out by talking with others or trial and error. One major plus for me -- this is an inexpensive book that is well worth its cost.

I am just beginning in stained glass and found the large color photos documenting each step of the process to be extremely helpful. This book is almost as good as having an instructor in the room with you. One additional item - when you go to buy your tools, ask about the Morton System for cutting glass - it's an excellent partner for applying what you learn in this work.

I've looked at a lot of stained glass how-to books, and this one is the best because it's modern, step-by-step, and has great illustrations and photographs. It's also got a number of good patterns, easy to more difficult, with tips and special instructions. This is the only how-to book on stained glass that I've actually used as a reference as I've been working my first leaded and copper foil projects.
