The 302 stainless steel shim stock with full hard temper has a #2B smooth finish and a standard tolerance, and meets American Society for Testing and Materials International ASTM A666, SAE Aerospace Material Specification AMS 5906, and Federal Specification QQ-S-766 standards. The 302 stainless steel grade provides good resistance to corrosion and high temperatures. It may be slightly magnetic. The #2B smooth finish has a smooth, slightly reflective appearance. The full hard temper is harder and has a higher yield strength than 3/4 hard temper to better resist deformation.
Shim stock is very thin material that can be fabricated into specific shapes. Yield strength is the maximum stress a material can withstand before it will no longer return to its original shape. Corrosion resistance describes the material's ability to prevent deterioration caused by atmosphere, moisture, or other medium. Wear resistance indicates the ability to prevent surface damage caused by contact with other surfaces. Toughness describes the material's ability to absorb energy before breaking, while hardness (commonly measured as indentation hardness) describes its resistance to permanent surface deformation. Formability indicates how easily the material can be permanently shaped. Machinability describes how easily it can be cut, shaped, finished, or otherwise machined.

The worse part is that I found out the other negative reviews and this deceptive wording has been going on for 5 months without resolution!
BUT, the description says 50' (feet) in MULTIPLE places as it does for other shim stock they also sell in different thicknesses. The item is really 50 INCHES long...so now I need another roll. I have an e-mail in to the seller and I will modify my review based on their response...
UPDATE: Seller apologized for error immediately and offered a full refund. Instead I had them send another 50 inch long roll...I'm very satisfied.
Also how much stainless steel shim stock did you expect for 16 bucks?
Yes it advertised as 50 feet, but you should know better after reading the reviews. If the price is to good to be true,it probably isn't.
I used this shim stock to increase the diameter of my axles by 0.003" which allows the bearings to fit snugly onto the axle. On some axles it was actually too tight and I was unable to get the bearings on/off cleanly, but thats almost certainly due to inconsistent axle size and not shim size.
I know it probably doesnt matter much, but shimming axles helps keep the bearings vertically aligned. This increases bearing life and speed, while eliminating play and slop.
If youre going to shim skateboard axles with this, make sure you've also got some bearing spacers too, if you want.

This product is advertised as 50 feet long but it's actually 50 inches. In other respects, it's fine shim stock and was delivered quickly.Published on March 18, 2013 by mecheng
Item was listed as 50', but was only 50". Incorrect listing cost my customer a lot of time & money.Published on March 5, 2013 by Matthew Kenney
