This steamer basket is sort of flimsy. Not like my other 9 inch model. However, if you don't manhandle it, it works great. I got this specifically for steaming tamales in a large pot so the 12 inch size fits the bill. Note the "feet" come separate and you have to clip them into perforations in the bottom plate. They are made out of thin stainless steel and provide about 1 inch of depth. I had to bend them out a bit to give them enough tension so they wouldn't come loose.

I plan on going to my local home improvement store and getting 3 stainless steel bolts and nuts and make my own "extnded" feet to give the basket a little more stand off room in the bottom of the pot. That's an old school crab boil trick.....

Steamer seems to be pretty well made. Only concern right out of the box was the legs which support the insert. They are spring clips that raise the insert ~ 1 inch from the bottom of the pot. They are not very springy and one already fell out in the dishwasher.

The collapsible mechanism works fairly well and you can put it inside different sized pots. Does not get too hot and cools down quickly, making it easy to get things out of it. I only tried steaming frozen dumplings and it worked great as a steamer.

I gave it 3 stars, because one of the leg does not fit in properly (it gets detached every time I washed the steamer and I hand washed it), the legs could have been a little bigger to allow for more room for water underneath the steamer and it is a pain to clean it. I don't know if it is the dumplings but they would always get stuck , especially in the holes. A filter paper might help but I have not tried that yet.

This started falling apart after the second time I used it. It's made of cheap thin metal and isn't worth any price, no matter how low.

I have used my strainer for about a week now and I love steaming my vegetables. I am eating healhier and the strainer is easy to clean and safe in the dishwasher.

I gave this steamer 4 stars instead of 5 because of the feet that come with it. I am glad that I read other's reviews when I was buying it. Many people said the feet were flimsy and some had even lost the feet because they come off. I took my new basket, went to the garage where my husbands tools are stored and bent back the tabs on the feet so that they could not come off during washing or any other time. I think the basket is great and huge, I like that factor. If there was anything that could be upgraded it would be to have screw on feet that were a little sturdier.

I have always successfully used this to steam vegetables. However, it can be a challenge to get it out because I have a tall stockpot and the center post of the steamer is not very tall/easy to grab.

Works fine for me. I've been steaming broccoli in it. You just have to be gentle with it. Now it is a little on the thin side, but it is a steamer. Those three little feet that people are having trouble with, just slip the flat edge of the clip into the slot in the bottom of the basket. Then take a pair of needle nose pliers and bend that flat part of the clip upwards and fold over into a half circle until it is nearly touching the long part of the leg. That should keep the legs from falling off. Now, right side up it should set level and should be ready for steaming. Thanks.
