These are nice vegetable cutters and I would recommend them, but be aware that they may be too big to use on some vegetables, such as an average size carrot. I have been trying to find some carrots that are a bit bigger to use with these, since the shapes cut from average carrots tend to be clipped at the corners.

They're still cute, though, and I can use them on plenty of other things, such as pickled beets or mango slices. I'd recommend hand washing and drying right away. I haven't had problems with rust yet, but in my experience, most cookie cutter-like tools don't do well if exposed to water for very long.

September 2011 update:

I previously mentioned these may be too big to use on some vegetables but figured out if you slice a vegetable, such as a carrot, at an angle, you'll have a bigger surface. Duh.

These stainless steel veggie cutters are perfect for cute-ifying your child's lunch. I create snacks that are like mini-lunch*bles from the store, but healthier - instead of all the preservatives and sodium-laden stuff in those packages, I cut up nitrate-free lunch meat, soy cheese (the little one is lactose intolerant), and either cucumbers or carrots and whole grain crackers! She loves her cute little snack. These work great and are a snap to clean. Thanks!

They probably say not to put them in the dishwasher, but I threw away the packaging. I would have done it anyway. They rust in the DW.

My daughter has recently started school. I purchased both these and the Kai FG5032 Chuboos Vegetable Cutters to make her lunches more fun. Here are some of the differences between the two:

Price: SS Vegetable Cutters win
While neither of them are very expensive, these cutter are about ten dollars less than the Chuboos.

Size: Chuboos are slightly larger
This can be positive or negative depending on what you are using the cutters for. The platform that you hand goes on is substantially larger on the Chuboos than the SS cutters; the Chuboos shapes are also somewhat larger. The size of the SS Cutters actual cutter is about the size of a quarter. You may refer to the pictures to see.

Cutting Sharpness: Chuboos win
Both of these cutters have blunted ends, and it would be nearly impossible for you to cut yourself on them; which makes them good for little hands to use. However the Chuboos tend to make cleaner cuts. (pictures for comparison)

Ease of Use: Tie
They are both easy to use. Simply cut the vegetable (or fruit) into the proper thickness and press down. The Chuboos cutters however do have somewhat more complex figures which makes it easier for food to get stuck in them and not come out quite right. The SS cutters do not have this problem, however they lack the platform to press down on which, after cutting lots of hard veggies, can become somewhat painful. I have found a hand towel folded over fixes this problem for me.

Clean up: Chuboos win
The Chuboos cutters can be placed in the dishwasher, which makes cleaning them super easy. They are not really difficult to clean in the first place, but it's nice to be able to toss them in the dishwasher if I want to.

I got these little cutters for bento. They make great little shapes that are pretty clean. I have a bottle brush to clean them with and they work great.

Ok, I know that's a funny title - but it's true! I have to say I am very pleased with the quality and ability of these vegetable cutters. They easily cut through apple, cucumber, cheese, and yes even a slice of cold pizza (with a bit of twisting) I use these to make shapes and fun for my son's lunches and these are wonderful and make chopping/slicing super fast. If I had to say a drawback at all is that the backs (?) where you push down are still a bit sharp themselves (they'd never cut you, but still quite uncomfortable) with the pizza I had to use a dishtowel to help prevent from my hand hurting. However, that being said it certainly doesn't detract from the quality. I find these to be plenty sharp for my needs and they wash well in the silverware tray in the dishwasher! Can't ask for better than that!

These are nicely made cutters that come in a cute compact box.
They don't take up much space and work well.
