Review

The Architect's Journal, 1st August, 1996
Alan Blanc, without methodological nervousness, plunges in ... the book is well served by numerous clear diagrams and plans ... filled with practical realism and down-to-earth detail ... a marvellous primer for every student'.

Detail, (German) 1996 'A worthwhile design aid. The structure is less systematic than pragmatic ... an excellent work.'

The Architectural Review July 1996
'a fascinating book - not putting the book down is the best way to treat it'

'This is a fascinating book. The author's love of the subject is evident on
every page and it is very sad that he did not live to see publication. But
we can all be thankful that he did live to complete it.
..Blanc's enthusiasm carries one along and I could not put the book down.
This book is likely to commute between your architectural bookshelf at
home and your technical reference library at the office.'

This review is from: Stairs, Second Edition (Paperback)
If you were looking for inspiration, look elsewhere. This is a dry, uninspired academic study of the (yawn) history of stairs, etc. Looks like a basic first year arch text. Few photos. I don't need to know the basics of code. I thought from the description that I would get a juicy book with cutting edge stair design and details for a variety of applications. Pen and ink drawings of ancient ruins instead with some limited photos of some interesting installations, but hardly worth the price.
