A masterpiece....for any music fan.,
This review is from: Stairway to Heaven: The Final Resting Places of Rock's Legends (Paperback)
Have you ever gone to see your favorite artist in concert only to go home somewhat upset because they didn't play this song or that song? Well,I thought I would be thinking that way when I purchased this book, thinking that it would not have the gravesite(s) of this artist or that artist or so on. WAS I WRONG!!! This is like a who's who of dead people of the music world. The book in no way caters to just one genre of music. It practically contains every dead artist from all genres of music. From country (Johnny Cash,Hank Williams) to rap (Jam master Jay,Eazy E) to classic rock (Brian Jones,Jimi Hendrix) to blues (Muddy Waters,John Lee Hooker) to punk (Sid Vicious,Johnny Thunders) to even Tejano (Selena),this book has it all. From members of the beatles to members of MC5 and from members of Lynyrd Skynyrd to members of The Ramones and The New York Dolls,no band is left out. There are roughly 100 artists in this 160 page book which includes artist and gravesite photos as well as the stories behind their deaths. No music fan is left out. It is a masterpiece worth buying. Although it contains no directions to getting to the sites,it still can also be used as the perfect travel guide for the rock n roll historian. Rock on!!!!!

Fascinating Stuff!,

This review is from: Stairway to Heaven: The Final Resting Places of Rock's Legends (Paperback)
This book is so fascinating that I read it in one sitting. Not only is the information presented extremely interesting, the photos are absolutely beautiful. This book stayed with me long after I finished it. It's true that many musicians brought their fates upon themselves, but somehow tragedy still prevails. Victims of their own inflated egos? Environments? Perhaps. For those who could have prevented their own deaths, there is still tragedy in the futility of it all. Just because you're young and talented doesn't mean your life has to end in a fireball of legend. Life for the middle-aged is worth the trek. For those who died in plane accidents, our hearts go out to you.
In the next edition, maybe the inclusion of Patsy Cline?

I'm grateful Bianca Butthole is in it.,

As the founder of her first band, Butt Trumpet, and also as the one accused of helping her learn to play bass (/grin) I am deeply grateful that Mr. Reed has done his homework and saw fit to include her in this book. While so many musicians have passed on in tragedy after tragedy, and Bianca is no exception (she died in a car crash on December 15th, 2001 while on tour with her other band, Betty Blowtorch), I am grateful that a tasteful book such as this exists so that fans everywhere of those included can read more about them as well as see or perhaps now know how to visit these places of tribute to those who have given the world so much great music. Thank you, Mr. Reed, for your hard work on this book!

I feel like providing my house guests with unusual and "quick read" reading material (in my guest bathroom) that is fun and entertaining ...I love to talk about it later when the subject comes up ... such interesting facts are inside the cover of this book. Those that love music facts about our beloved musicians who have passed away will LOVE all of this information!

Stairway to Heaven is an interesting, informative book about the final resting places of some of rock music's legends. Many of the graves of famous stars are photographed and accompany the text. It's a book you pick up to read and can't then put down. Excellent to return to again and again.

History and reference book,

This review is from: Stairway to Heaven: The Final Resting Places of Rock's Legends (Paperback)
I hope the title doesn't turn anyone off to this fabulous musical history of the late 20th century! To me it seems not just about rock's ledgends because it covers some motown and country among other genre's. But of course, it's got the great Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, and Janis Joplin. Most of the famous dead rock stars were WWII babies, not "baby boomers". Hendrix, Morrison, Joplin and several of the Beetles, where born in 1942 and 1943. And some of the still alive like Mick Jaeger were born at this time too. I wish it had an index page with the names of the stars in alphabetical order. When I've discussed some of the stars with others, I've had to search through the book to find the page as the contents don't seem to be in the best order. But I wouldn't let this deter anyone from puchasing this great addition to their library.
