Robert Plant and Jimmy Page are to classic rock as Rodgers and Hammerstein are to Broadway! "Stairway to Heaven" was voted #3 in 2000 by VH1 on its list of the 100 Greatest Rock Songs, and was placed at number 31 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.

Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder.

There's a feeling I get when I look to the west.

This 1971 recording is rich, deep, everlasting genius.

There are few decent covers of this song. The Kennedy Center Honors one with Heart is up there. But most of the recent aren't much to listen to. Why? Guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham together made the greatest rock band ever. "Stairway to Heaven" is their opus.

The Zeppelin catalog is deep. So much incredible music, but this song is on so many best-ever lists. To be fair, the Beatles, Queen, the Who, the Stones, and a number of other bands can arguably be the "best band ever," and rightfully so. But Zeppelin just epitomized rock on every level.

"Stairway to Heaven" is approachable by non-blues rock fans. It's lyrical, full of melody, yet a complete hard rocking song. It has been revered, controversial, mimicked. There's even a lawsuit going on now about it.

Before I go on and on and drool, buy the thing.

I admit that I do not know the full meaning of the classic rock song Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin. This is only because the lyrics discuss that a woman is at first building a way into heaven and towards the end of the song she is buying her passage into heaven. I’m guessing that this heartfelt song is about a woman who lives her life in a way that she feels will earn her a satisfying and fulfilling afterlife and the ending of the song is actually discussing her death and how she succeeded in entering heaven. Although, I admit that Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin could mean something completely different from what I was guessing. I’m going to look up the meaning later on to see if my guess as the song’s meaning was close or way out of the ballpark (metaphorically speaking). Nonetheless, Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin is a rewarding classic rock song.

My late husband used to always play this song on his guitar. It was his favorite and thus, it is one of mine.

I think this song "Stairway To Heaven" by Led Zeppelin is the crème of the crème of all of their musical works. The song transports you to a more simple time. It has a melancholic tone that strums those inner chords of the soul. The use of the woodwinds in this song is quite good. It reminds me of a past life in the middle ages when I was a peasant girl. Towards the end of the song, the song comes into a more modern period with it's magnificent riffs and vocals. It is epic! I recommend that everyone has it in their music collection.

I don't think there is a more perfect song that Stairway to Heaven. That classic acoustic guitar opening that becomes some of the hardest driving rock around. A lot of people have tried to imitate that style, none have ever been as successful. This is Jimmy Page at his absolute best on the guitar. And well, somebody that means a lot to me asked to have this song on his remembrance DVD. He was a big fan and loved this song. It worked so well as a tribute to him.
