What I love about series like Rock Chicks, Corps Security and Line of Duty, which we'll collectively refer to as Alpha Men With Hot Friends, is that we get a chance to know and develop feelings for our heroes before their own stories make their way to the pages. We met Matt Donovan way back during Officer Off Limits. He stands out amongst this group because he's quiet and pensive and, well, broody. Matt gave Brent some fabulous advice about women after one of the MANY times he screwed up with Hayden, leading me to believe this fella was gonna have this relationship stuff down pat. He's also given me reason to suspect on more than one occasion that his tastes run towards the unusual. Given his propensity towards standoffish behavior, his mad skills with the ladies is questionable, but considering he had Lucy Mason's pink behind in his hands within hours of their first meeting, we'll call me half-right.

Matt Donovan is a solitary guy. His parents more or less checked out on him when he was young, so he doesn't have any family ties to speak of. He spent the majority of his adult life in the military, where his job as a sniper fostered his isolation. Afghanistan cost him his best friend and his inclination towards dominance in the bedroom cost him his fiancé. Matt's heart has been trampled on time and again in the name of love and friendship, so he's wary of both. He's also one of those men who's just. . . . . still. He doesn't speak unless he has something to say and he doesn't gesticulate. Matt isn't a ladies' man like Daniel or a joker like Brent, and him calling these fellas friends is more about their collective attempts to suck him in than any desire for companionship on his part.

We’ve gotten to know Matt through this entire series. He’s the sullen and silent sniper who seems to be the antithesis of Brent, the hero of the previous book in the series, ‘Asking for Trouble’. He’s all broody and moody and other words ending in ‘oody’. He’s been tasked with fetching Brent’s sister, Lucy, and bringing her to New York. Upon seeing that big hunk o’ spunk, however, Lucy concocts a plan to pose as her friend Sasha in order to get Matt into bed without worrying about affecting his pesky moral compass. Oh God, it’s not as confusing as it sounds, swear. So they embark on a wonderfully dirty relationship, as Lucy attempts to find her feet in the city and Matt tries to get over his hangups about his proclivities (they’re super-hot proclivities. He’s not a furry or anything).

I love guy-falls-for-his-BFF’s-little-sister books, but they’re done so often I worried that Bailey wouldn’t make her story special enough to stand out. This line of thinking proves what the doctors have been telling my mother for years: I’m an idiot without any kind of faculties for reason or logic. This is Tessa Bailey, after all. Matt is hot, hotter than all other heroes in this series (there is some mild sugar kink, which, if you think how amazing Bailey’s dirty talk skills are in her vanilla book, is pretty spectacular – filthy-whisper-wise). Lucy isn’t quite as immediately likeable as the series’ other heroines, considering she starts her adventure with a lie. Moreover, she starts out on her relationship with a battle-scarred, untrusting good guy with a lie. But we get over it, because Bailey is so bloody good at this writing lark.

As the relationship progresses, Matt becomes more worried about his desires and what Brent will think of their hook-ups.

Holy Hell……Tessa Bailey is the QUEEN of the dirty talk. I can't put into words how hot this book is.

"He moved like he was walking toward a lover. A lover he planned on thoroughly roughing up before making her scream obscenities into a pillow."

Staking His Claim is about Matt and Lucy. Lucy is Brent's sister and Matt is in charge of picking her up from college and taking her to NYC. When she sees him, it's lust at first sight. But then she hears him saying some not-s0-nice things about her. But Lucy is ready to have some fun, so she lies to Matt about who she is. Matt can't believe how hot he is for Lucy's friend (who is really Lucy) and when the car breaks down, they find themselves having wild sex in a pay by the hour motel. Days later when Matt finds out who she really is, he is PISSED. Not only because she lied but because he betrayed his best friend by sleeping with his sister.

But Matt can't stay away. He sees that he can be himself with her, but he doesn't think she deserves the real him. He thinks she can do way better than a crazed sex fiend like him. Lucy loves Matt's control in the bedroom, loves his dirty mouth and the rough sex. She just has to convince them that they're good together.

"I'm considering giving you my cock right here and now. Would you like that, baby girl? Would you like to be rewarded for following my instructions?"

Panty change!!!

This story has everything!! Fantastic characters……Matt is sexy and broody, Lucy is feisty and sweet. It action-packed, sexy, funny and scorchingly hot!! So, so good from start to finish!!
