The trench warfare of 1915-1917 was an almost static confrontation between two armies who could draw on recent examples of strategy that might have avoided stand-off. This book seeks to find out why the stalemate came about.

An informative reading.,

This review is from: Stalemate!: Great Trench Warfare Battles (Cassell Military Class) (Paperback)
This book offers a great insight into the type of warfarecharacteristic of the First World War. The major battles are covered in a balanced manner and a fine analysis accompanies each battle discussed. It is a good book to begin understanding the nature of war that was "supposed to end all wars". I also recommend reading 'Real War, 1914-1918' by Liddell Hart for a non-specific analysis. Overall, this book will be as useful to a professional as it would be to a general reader.
