A Lapse,

Coughlin has written a number of very readable lawyer novels. I have always felt he was among the very best of that genre. Not great prose, but entertaining and interesting reading. This book is certainly not anywhere near his usual quality. It is not badly written and has a somewhat believable and interesting plot if you can stand the repeated murder descriptions (OK, it is about a serial killer, so there will have to be some repeating), but why read this book if you are looking for one of the more typical Coughlin narratives? Select one of his other novels and ignore this one because it is probably his worst.

A Criminal Of Unusual Perceptions.,
By Betty Burks "Betty Burks" (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Stalking Man (Mass Market Paperback)
A Stalking man can be of any persuation, profession, nationality, and age. This one is no amateur, as he'd been proclaimed "cured" and deemed no longer a danger to society. He was a Jack the Ripper of the past. Edward Teague doesn't leave proof.
Dr. Winkler left clues as to his next victim, spelling out the word, Stalker. St. Louis was circled on his map, as were Toledo, Akron, Louisville, Kokomo, Indianapolis, Niles, and Grand Rapids. This guy did get around. He'd been trained as a youngster to be a deer stalker, and used that knowledge to choose his victims in bars, on the streets, at parties, wherever. He's on a cross-country hunt, Nazi-style, as he is clearly smarter than the law and knows how to circumnavigate around their messes. He has cunning and precision, honed while locked away, and enjoyed the thrill of the chase as he outran and out-maneuvered the police detectives. He is a sadistic killer who has returned home to take his revenge and have a bit of fun choosing his victims. He got his thrills from watching the terror the 'willing' victims had brought down on themselves. A stalker is dangerous, as you never know when he may go 'off' and decide that 'this is the day' to do his business and get it over with. The D.A.'s office investigates but don't do anything to prevent the crime. If there were no crime, there'd be no need for a District Attorney and his enclave of lawyers no capable of having an office of their own. Crimes and criminals are their business. This one thinks he is above the law, but no one ever is. They all get caught in the end. And God will cause the perpetrator more pain than he could ever possibly put on his victims. He may tell himself that they were 'just asking for it,' but that is not the answer. A crime is a crime and must be vindicated.

Stalking Coughlin Woman,
This review is from: The Stalking Man (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book and I will read it again in the future. It's fast paced, energetic and it will keep you at the edge of your seat. Great read! I read it in two days.

this is an interesting look at the criminal world. Coughlin grabs you on the first couple of pages, and you just can't put the book down until it's over.

I picked this book up at the store about a year ago because I was looking for something interesting to read. Am I ever glad I decided to do that. I have since read this book three different times. It twists and turns and you get titally involved with the characters. I reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a little murder suspense.

The book is such that when you start it, you want to finish, but if for no other reason, because you started it. The flashbacks are sort of stupid, to the point where the book is not believable. Very good vacation reading when mindless is the goal.

A VERY ENJOYABLE BOOK IF YOU LIKE BOOKS DEALING WITH THE INNER THINKINGS OF A SERIAL KILLER. NOT AS GOOD AS DEAN KOONTZ'S " INTENSITY", BUT WELL WORTH READING.

I loved this book! I would read it all day in class and, of course, get yelled at for reading and not doing what I'm supposed to. I especially enjoyed the Edward Teague's style of killing and the ending is something I never expected. I rarely finish books when I start reading them, unless I really enjoy it. The Stalking Man, I think, is a must read if you enjoy reading about a serial killer.

Good idea for a novel, now if it just had an author,

The idea of a stalking man certainly is timely and the plot idea here is a good one for a writter that knows something about dialog and personal interactions. This author definetly does not fill either criteria. If your looking for a book to reccomend to someone that you don't like...this is it!
