A Simple Work of Mystical but Pragmatic Genius!,
By
This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
I can't even imagine how brilliant Bentov was, because he explains the Nature of Things so clearly, intuitively and humorously for the physics- and math-impaired that it boggles my mind. And he also very gently and humorously explains those mystical connections, synchronicities and the quirky nature of time. It's the kind of abstract but accessible knowledge that opens spiritual doors. And even though theoretical physics has advanced significantly since Bentov died, his thinking still holds up quite nicely. What a tour de force. My copy is dog-eared from all the times I've visited and revisited this book, and I'm happy to have this forum to express my admiration.

Exploring Realities as States of Consciousness,
By Cynthia Sue Larson "www.realityshifters.com" (San Francisco bay area, CA USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
STALKING THE WILD PENDULUM is a truly classic book in the field of consciousness that's lots of fun to read! Packed with cartoons, graphs, and diagrams, this book entertains as it educates. Scientific theories and experimental results are presented in plain English that clearly show how different realities are actually different states of consciousness... and how we can move from one to another. One of my all-time favorite exercises on stopping time is described -- which helped me better understand how I'd done that when I was a teenager, and wondered if anyone else had ever seen time slow to a stop. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to understand the true nature of reality and consciousness. -- Cynthia Sue Larson

Astonishingly brilliant, simple, logical and powerful.,

This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
One of only a handful of books I have ever read that carry its case in such a powerful manner. I am a retired academic and have read several hundred books of quality on philosophy, metaphysical propositions, quantum mechanics, etc. Few of them offered anything approaching a really new or viable approach to the dynamics of consciousness. This book is as unique in its approach to the subject matter as George Gamow's seminal work "One, Two, Three, Infinity". It is simply astonishing, to me, to read such a erudite presentation of such a challenging topic, produced by an, essentially, academically untrained intellect. Bentov was a priceless mind. I am saddened I will never have the opportunity to engage him in direct conversation

Itzhak Bentov has a clear grasp of reality and makes a concise explanation of his view in terminology that is easily understood by anyone with a decent vocabulary. I highly recommend this book--particularly for spiritual seekers. Joseph H. Pierre

the fusion of illusion,

This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
this is the sort of book that along with its companion "a cosmic trip" by the same author simply and eruditely cuts to ribbons the very fabric of the newton/cartesian paradigm of existance upon which western civilization is based. Stalking the Wild Pendulum can be understood and appreciated by the dumbest teenager - should be a secondary school text book. Frees the mind from nonsense and dogma with humor, compassion, and a highly evolved intelligence. No wonder Mr. Bentov was taken out ...

Stellar work.,

This is not the easiest book to read if you have a limited background in science but it is well worth the effort. It is an astonishing work. I recommend it highly to those with an open mind and a thirst for understanding the nature of the universe. I have read more scientific texts and simpler texts -- this book strikes a remarkable balance. I truly enjoyed this book and it has inspired me to read more on the topics discussed. THIS BOOK IS DEEP! Read and enjoy.

A very informitave theory of the workings of consciousness,

This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
One of the best if not the best book I have read on the theory of consciousness. The Author takes the reader through the web of complications involved in nature, the universe and consciousness with great clarity. A book that should be easily understood by anyone with an interest in the above matters. I read the book about sixteen years ago and the thoughts have never left me. So much so that I want to read it over and over again.

I found this book fascinating and relatively clear and easy to follow. Although the author is not a physicist, he did review his work with a number of them as he wrote and the result is a book about physics, creation, oneness, and consciousness that is both fun and tremedously informative to read. I highly recommend it to spiritual seekers and budding scientists alike.

Why one immortal's wisdom makes mortal knowledg nought,
By A Customer
This review is from: Stalking the Wild Pendulum: On the Mechanics of Consciousness (Paperback)
i, a spiritual-based Native American, was led to a store in search of "something". Once arrived, i found my eyes go to this text, as if pre-determined; i HAD to have it. In it, i found a soul-mate who answered questions i came upon only after. i still find i learn from him in my truly quiet and searching moments. The author was transcendant in his understanding, and his death was as natural as his coming. One reviewer has said he came to write this and then returned to where he came from. I believe this. A superior genius, his work is easy to read and non-technical. Literally, his wisdom makes mortal knowledge - and techno-babble - nought. Of thousands of texts I've encountered, I recommend this as I would my own. i LOVE Itzhak Bentov and am a better mortal by finding his text. I can't recommend it enough. Here You will find a great friend, and spiritual ally.

I read this book many years ago and it sparked my imagination. Reading it again, I realize a lot of the contents are speculative. However, it is an accessible introduction to consciousness and some of the implications of the new physics to life for the average person.I think better books have been written on the new physics, but this book goes further than discussing science. At its most fundamental level, it is probing for meaning and presents a worldview that is open, curious and compassionate. I found the book entertaining and it certainly sparks the imagination. This is a good introduction to a new physics paradigm in the sense of providing a starting point for the average person. Since this book was written, many other fine books on similar topics have been written, but at the time this was a pioneering work that is still worth a read. If you are looking for a more scholarly book with less of a focus on science, then I recommend FORGOTTEN TRUTH. This is another book that takes a serious look at the search for meaning in the modern world. A BRIEF HISTORY OF EVERYTHING is also very interesting and thought provoking. |
