These work great for things like sandwiches, burgers, lightly dressed salads, etc. They're a good buy, and certainly good for the environment.
But my experience has been that they do not do at all well with anything "sloppy" or juicy. Spaghetti with meat sauce: the juice from the sauce leaked through. Broiled chicken: the juices leaked through. Cole slaw: the dressing leaked through. So if you're planning to use these mostly for casual eating, where nothing too "liquid" is involved, these will work beautifully. Otherwise, you're probably better off using a "coated" paper plate.

These plates are generously sized with a good lip around the edges so you can put any food on without risk of it sagging or the food rolling off as soon as it tips a little.

I can tell no difference in this plate versus other standard brands. We had spaghetti on these with creamed corn. There was a small amount of steam moisture on the table when we were done eating. The plates were no more worse for wear, other than the staining from the tomatoes. I have reused the plates from lunches for the kids. Since a sandwich and apples leaves no trace of use. Dust off the crumbs and you have a clean plate! I would buy these plates. Better for the world since it is a compostable plate that is made from a by-product.
