Stalkmarket paper tableware are made from sugar cane fiber that is a waste product of the sugar refining process.

Amazon.com

StalkMarket's 12-ounce hot soup bowls will have you feeling good about the environment while you're drinking your soup. They are made entirely from biodegradable and compostable sugar cane fiber, keeping the earth happy and a better place to live for future generations. These bowls are 100 percent tree- and plastic-free, and are biodegradable, recyclable, and home compostable, yet just as functional and effective as traditional disposable tableware products.

StalkMarket bowls are microwaveable and can be frozen.
Good for the Earth, Good for You
Unlike traditional paper tableware, StalkMarket doesn't use a polyethylene coating, which means it will degrade quickly in a composter or landfill. Made entirely of renewable and sustainable materials, they are also an environmentally superior alternative to disposable plastic or polystyrene products.

StalkMarket products are built tough, and can withstand boiling liquids, are microwave safe, can be frozen, and are oil- and cut-resistant. Since the raw materials used to make StalkMarket utensils and tableware are byproducts of food-grade sugar processing, they are free of any contaminants throughout the manufacturing process. This means they are perfectly safe for food contact, pharmaceutical packaging, and personal care items.

Feel Good Without Feeling Poor
With StalkMarket products, you can feel good about doing your part for the environment without feeling a pinch in your wallet. StalkMarket disposable tableware is priced similarly to other high-end disposable paper products and, in fact, often cost less than plastic or polystyrene products, due to the rising cost of oil-based products.

About StalkMarket
StalkMarket was created to provide an environmentally and economically viable alternative to traditional disposable paper- and plastic-based products. A sugarcane fiber-based paperboard called bagasse is the base material for StalkMarket's core line of products. Bagasse is made from recovered sugarcane waste from sugar refineries. StalkMarket products are fully compostable after use, creating a green cycle that goes from Stalk to Market and from Market back to Stalk.

All StalkMarket products are:
  • Made in full compliance with US Food and Drug Administration Guidelines.
  • ISO 9002 compliant.
  • Accredited by SGS (Societe Generale de Surveilance) Geneva Switzerland, the world's leading verification, testing and certification organization.
  • ASTM and BPI (Biodegradable Product Institute) compliant.
  • How are StalkMarket products made?

StalkMarket's manufacturing process is free of contaminants.

Best disposable bowl we have every encountered. We don't like plastic or styrfoam, not only for the environmental reasons, but also healthwise, plastic is not good to use with warm foods and liquids. Other paper products are too flimsy or don't hold liquid well.

These bowls are quite sturdy and even while holding soup, they maintain their strength and shape.

We have the full line of stalkmarket products now. Bowls, plates, cups and are very pleased and continue to reorder them.

Despite being a family that recycles, we go through paper plates and bowls at an alarming rate. Because of this, I decided to try the Stalkmarket bowls and see how they worked for us. They are quite a bit more economical than the bowls we buy in the store and I like that they are from recycled sugar cane fiber.

The only drawback is that the 16" bowls are smaller than the 20" bowls we normally buy in the store. Because of this, I can't fit an entire can of Progresso soup entirely in one bowl. However, this is a small price to pay for how well they work. The bowls stay strong even where some other paper bowls fall apart (e.g. when steaming vegetables). I've refrigerated, frozen, microwaved, and had liquids in these bowls- they have stayed strong and never broken on me.

These are nice biodegradable bowls made of sugar-cane fiber. (No they do not contain sugar crystals-- just fiber). They are a great alternative to paper bowls which contain chemicals and pollute the environment. I have bought these bowls over and over, and obviously I like them a lot. The plates are great too. If you don't want to buy them here, you may also be able to find them at Whole Foods and Wild Oats. But as usual, Amazon has the best deals.

I live by myself and have this problem where I run out of bowls or certain dishes, but can't turn on the dishwasher right away until I build up more dirty dishes. Because of this, I end up having to hand wash before and after a meal. Just got sick of it. Usually when I come home from work, I have very little energy or patience to clean anything. And really I have very little cupboard space for any more dishes, so I decided to go the paper plate and bowls route. I also wanted something sturdy and biodegradable. It was important to me not to pollute the earth with a bunch of needless chemicals just so I wouldn't have to do the dishes. And also... the thought of using dish washing liquid and detergent a lot was another concern. I must say that I am beyond impressed... I'm just so happy with these bowls. They are thick (you only have to use one at a time, they are that sturdy) enough and hold liquid perfectly. So far I've done microwave mac and cheese. I've also microwaved tomato soup in these too,and each time these bowls hold up so well. You do have to hold the bowl from the bottom after doing soup because the heat and liquid make it slightly bendable, but this bowl doesn't leak, and still stays really firm (Don't let the slight bending sway you from purchasing these). Also since the bowl isn't made of glass, you don't have to worry about it burning your hands as much. It keeps its shape, and handles the microwave perfectly. 500 is plenty for me and will last quite a few months. Plus I think 16 ounces is a perfect size...not too big and not too small. Best of all... I don't feel guilty about throwing them away.

This product is great for people who are too busy to do dishes.
It's a time saver, and is better than styrofoam (against heat).
However, it is not steam proof, as I find that water vapor does manage to
seep through. So if you are using it for a hot bowl of soup, you
may find some moisture at the bottom. It's not to the extent where
it leaves a puddle, more like a ring of dew. Works great with cold foods though.

This is the best compostable bowl I've ever seen. the only downside is that it is expensive. they're 15 cents each or something but i buy them b/c they're compostable & I can't stand using plastic b/c it'll end up in the ocean. anyhow, i highly recommend them. awesome bowls. easy to microwave, store in fridge, etc. & they don't get soggy - you can put soup in them - they're awesome! i have 2 young kids & don't have time to do dishes so i use these every day & LOVE them!

I had searched around for "hot soup" disposable bowls and finally found this one. It is large enough for a generous serving without the fear of spilling over while carrying it from a buffet line. This product line is great. We used a number of the Stalkmarket products for our event and they all looked coordinated and performed very well. Love that it is a green item. Will use again!!

I love Stalkmarket products, and have used them for a number of parties. We ordered these bowls to serve beans in, but had no idea how *tiny* they would be. I guess it's my fault for not getting a 16 oz soda can out and comparing how meager 12 oz would be next to it. But still - they're barely big enough for a scoop of ice cream.
