About Treadmills
Walking is still considered one of the most beneficial cardiovascular exercises for people of all ages, body types, and fitness levels. As a fundamental form of aerobic training, walking has numerous physical benefits for the heart, lungs, and circulatory system, while also increasing muscle tone and burning fat calories. Treadmills provide a convenient way to regularly exercise in all weather conditions in the comfort and safety of your own home.

From beginners just starting an exercise regimen to advanced athletes looking to maintain their fitness level, anyone interested in getting and staying in shape can benefit greatly from regular use of a treadmill. Treadmills allow you to determine the pace, distance, and complexity of the workout based on your needs, all while watching television, talking on the telephone, or reading a magazine. Much easier on sensitive joints like the knees and hips, treadmill walking and running surfaces are typically long, padded platforms that allow ample room for a long stride and comfortable, low-impact walk or jog without the harsh contact of a concrete surface.

While many different types, styles, and price ranges of treadmills exist, many of them offer unique features like a fold-up design for easy storage, an electronic display monitor showing speed, distance, workout time, incline level, and burned calories, and EKG grip pulses to monitor the heart rate while exercising. Regardless of the simple to complex features you may choose, treadmills offer an array of aerobic exercise opportunities that will provide long-lasting beneficial cardiovascular results without a commute to the gym or a jog in the rain.

This thing is so unstable and cheep. It fell apart after 3 weeks of use. It is now at the curb.

The Stamina 45-1000A Manual Treadmill is one of the easiest exercise machines to put together. I think it took me less than half an hour, and I ain't very handy with tools and stuff. Because of its incline and because it's a manual treadmill, this guy will give you one hell of a workout. If you've been used to motorized treadmills, beware: this treadmill is gonna be tough on you. But you know what? It's what you need if you're serious about getting into shape!

Living in a cold climate, my husband and I just can't quite force ourselves to go outside to exercise! We are dedicated joggers/walkers, and during winter we tend to gain a few pounds because we can't maintain our exercise levels. This treadmill is great! It's not too big, and does exactly what we need, allow us to jog and/or walk inside and keep the pounds off, of course let's not forget the advantage to the heart and lungs! It's mechanical, so it's a great "GREEN MACHINE" too. The only energy used, is that excess body fat! I recommend this product because it promotes good health, and doesn't use external energy!

(I've given it 3 stars as an "average": 1 star for the hell I went through, but 5 for my ultimate satisfaction. You decide if it's worth the aggravation!)

Here's the problem: If the machine you receive has a faulty piece, and you need a substitute piece, you are in trouble. The substitute pieces are NOT MADE TO THE SAME SPECS as the original pieces. Here is my story:

I ordered the Stamina 45-1000A manual treadmill on April 10 and received it on April 17. When I started to put it together, the very first piece I needed to use (one of the "feet") had one of its holes in the wrong place. So I called the Stamina support line, got a very nice woman named Phyllis, and she said they'd send me a new piece. (Fortunately, I had the foresight to get her name and extension in case I had to call back for more help.)

A week later, the new foot came. Only the metal part (and not the plugs or the wheel) was enclosed, so I had to take those off the faulty foot and put them on the new one. The plugs fit, but the wheel did not, because that section of the new foot was a different size! In fact, the whole piece was not quite identical to the original piece, and since it was one of a pair, and the treadmill would be standing on them, I thought it was important that they should match, or the treadmill might be a little off-balance. So I called Phyllis and insisted that they send me TWO new feet WITH the wheels on them, so that I would have two perfectly matching pieces as feet to balance the machine.

Another week later, the two new feet came, complete this time. I attached the crossbar to them. It took me an hour to get it tight, but that's just because I was not very deft with the wrenches. When I then went to attach the vertical poles to the feet, the holes didn't line up!

Yes, it's easy to put together. And I agree that it folds up nicely and stays out of the way. I will even agree that it's sturdy.

Maybe I just got a lemon. Despite many attempts, I have never been able to get the belt away from the left side at the front of the treadmill. The directions tell you how to adjust the way the belt runs -- but the adjustment only affects how it runs at the *back* of the treadmill -- not the front.

And perhaps the belt issue is why the thing is so incredibly uneven. It comes to a complete stop at times -- as if it's hanging on some rough spot underneath. As soon as I compensate to get it past the rough spot, it goes much faster -- and my foot flies off the back end. Charming.

I read the little tag that says you can spray silicone spray underneath the belt to make it smoother, so I went out and got some (annoying, why couldn't they just make it work and/or include the spray?). It was very difficult to spray underneath the belt -- it's very tight. But it did help somewhat -- now I can walk for 2 or 3 minutes without it hanging up so completely that I come to an immediate stop.

I'm an avid hiker and got this treadmill to keep me in shape during the cold, dark days of the winter. If you aren't already pretty fit, I strongly recommend you look at another treadmill (even if you are, you should probably look at another one). It's so hard to use that... even though I'm really committed to keeping a certain level of fitness, I just don't want to use it.
