4.0 out of 5 stars This would cost a lot more if sold separately....
This is obviously for beginners - look at what you get for the price. It's a great set for what you pay for because it doesn't NEED to be replaced. You can use it for a long time and be fine. The mat is a little narrow, but that doesn't matter to me, because the length is fine. Yes, you can get fancier prettier stuff, but I've used this equipment for over 2 years and it...

First of all, the copyright date of the CD/VHS is 2002- therefore, it is generally outdated. The quality of the DVD is not very good as it appears to have been burned from VHS. The instructional format is very outdated- it consists of the instructor talking through a session with a group of participants. I personally prefer the instructor doing the actual exercises as they provide the instruction. The instructor does a good job explaining the stretches and emphasizing basic techniques (ie breathing). The equipment itself is helpful although I feel the foam blocks are rather cheaply made. But it's a good system for a beginner, such as myself, if you don't mind the lukewarm quality of the DVD and some of the equipment. I paid $17 for it- I feel that it's not worth anymore than that.

This is obviously for beginners - look at what you get for the price. It's a great set for what you pay for because it doesn't NEED to be replaced. You can use it for a long time and be fine. The mat is a little narrow, but that doesn't matter to me, because the length is fine. Yes, you can get fancier prettier stuff, but I've used this equipment for over 2 years and it does the job. (Except my dog chewed up the blocks thinking they were dog toys I left for him, doh!) The workout IS outdated, yes. The video quality sucks. Going from HD to this takes some adjustment. It also has a cheesey fake NYC backdrop. But the honestly, it is one of my fav pilates combo yoga workouts ever. The instructor gives excellent advice as she helps others with their posture. The workout is very thorough, long, and is perfect for beginners. I like her demeanor as she isn't annoying. It works the whole body and I actually saw results rather quickly. She spends the right amount of time on every position. If you can deal with the outdated unhip visuals, it's a wonderful workout, far better than one I would have expected. It is the kind of workout I'd expect at the gym. The loop for the strap is a slightly narrow and the strap itself could be wider, so that's why I gave it 4 stars out of 5. Regardless, it's a great value and everything works just fine. I'd buy a better copy of the workout for this price alone if I could.

I ordered this workout package when it was on sale and got: 1) yoga mat, 2) two foam blocks, 3) two straps, and 4) one DVD and one VHS. OK, so I don't know why the company included BOTH the DVD and VHS format of the same exercise in the box, but since I didn't pay extra, I don't mind. (My player can play both formats anyway.) What I like about this DVD version is that there was no intro or promo of any kind in the beginning so I was able to start my exercise right away.

The workout itself is very relaxing and very do-able for people of any level. If you are a beginner, it's a great intro to yoga and pilate. If you are more advanced, you can use this program as a warm-up. It's shot in the studio setting so I feel like I was in the room with the rest of the students! (Although the setting feels dated, the exercise itself is timeless.) The total program lasts 50 minutes. Great stuff. Thanks, Amazon.com!

PS - since I already had a stretch-band, I didn't need the straps. I used these straps to tie my suitcases instead when I went on vacation. They came in very handy.

Let's be honest for less then $10 you can't expect much. What I got however was very useful. The mat blocks and straps were what I was really interested in and the DVD and VHS (VHS honestly?) were just a bonus. The programming that came with it is very basic and for begginners but again you're not going to find a better deal elsewhere as a lot of stores would sell the blocks straps and mat bundled together for $25.00+. I'm thinking about buying another just for the included yoga/pilates materials. Again though, I'm not sure how much use anyone looking solely for the yoga programming will get out of this as it looks to be a little outdated. Still a good by in my opinion.

The set is pretty outdated and cheap but for $18 ($60 would be insane) it isnt bad to start with, a mat usually costs that.

The pad and such are fine but the video looks like it was taped in the 90s. It does not have different levels or any extra instructions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very cheap with out-dated or useless stuff, December 16, 2009

I bought it as a black Friday deal for $18. The only useful thing in the package is the mat. My laptop is not able to play the DVD inside the package. And there is surprisingly a tape inside, which is totally useless! Who are watching tapes nowadays? People from the Mars? The tape will do nothing but taking space from my room! I won't pay more than $18 to buy this package. And I think the cheap mat isn't worth $18 at all....

I purchased this from one of the black friday lightning deals for a family gift exchange. I speant 18$ i believe. I opened the box and was suprised that all of the items were just in a regular box, not put together like a gift set or something. Since It is for a gift exchange i dont know if the DVD is any good. I have never done yoga or pilates but have considered the idea of getting a set like this before. If I had bought this set for myself at full price I would have been very dissapointed, but for the price and considering someone else is going to end up with it, its ok.
