Book Description

October 1, 2000
Stampworks is a collection of 32 experiments that will teach you first class BASIC Stamp programming. This is made easy by the inclusion of a BASIC Stamp II reference manual as an appendix. With StampWorks, you'll learn to get the most out of the BASIC Stamp and to increase its versatility by connecting to popular active and passive components. This text takes you beyond theory to help you do everything you always wanted to do with your BASIC Stamp.

About the Author

An avid electronics hobbyist for over 25 years, Jon Williams bought his first BASIC Stamp on a whim in 1994. That whim quickly turned into a full-fledged passion as Jon began to develop his own projects and assist others with theirs. His loose, conversational style -- developed during a 15-year career in the turf industry where he designed products and taught electronics to laymen -- lead to him taking the reins from fellow Stamp guru, Scott Edwards, for writing responsibilities of the popular Nuts &Volts magazine column, "Stamp Applications."

When not working with or writing about the BASIC Stamp, Jon feeds his other creative side by working as a professional actor in Dallas, Texas.

This review is from: StampWorks (Paperback)
"Whether you're a trained technician, a hobbyist or just plain curious, you will find StampWorks filled with answers to exactly how microcontrollers have come to be such an expanding part of our modern world. And you'll have fun while you're learning! This isn't a heavy engineering tome, but rather a step-by-step guide through 35 experiments designed to move the beginner from simple to moderately complex projects. Author Jon Williams' relaxed and friendly approach aids immeasurably to understanding the ins and outs of programming numerous devices used in microprocessor control. The spiral-bound, loose-leaf manual uses large type, simple diagrams and effective graphics. Each experiment is complete with written software, followed by Williams' easily understood explanation of the program and hardware operation. By the time you've worked with various display devices, learned how to count events, measure voltage, frequency and temperature, drive stepper and hobby servo motors, handle analog inputs and outputs and even build some simple games, you're on your way to designing your own projects from a solid foundation of knowledge and experience. StampWorks is a refreshing and stimulating introduction to the fascinating field of microprocessor control. As the book says, "Automate your environment; micro-control your world!"
