I'm 43 and have 6 kids. Ages 8 and down. I'm a toy pro. I'm so sick of this crap we import that breaks once you play with it once. This toy was designed by engineering genius's because I've never seen a toy last as long on one charge, fly over rocks, do wheelies, and made my kids scream. My 5 yr old was driving it however you need adult to watch cuz it will hurt if you get hit. It is a sophisticated toy made by pyscho toy freaks that I want to meet. Spend the extra 50 bucks and get the quick charge device that charges battery in 25 minutes. This is the iPhone of toys

I have been out of this rc stuff for sometime and this truck blew me away. Right out of the box it's very fast. I'like just about everything about it. Handling,acceloration,and good looks.Only downfall is the charger takes too long, 5 to 8 hours for a full charge for 20 mins of fun,not good.So I purchased a Passport AC/DC LI-PO6s Charger and 2600 7.4 2s 15c Li-Polymer Battery Kit and WOW what a difference. Charge time is less than 45mins and duration must be 35 to40 mins of fun depending on how hard you push it. You just need to check on the engine heat.There is a big difference in power between the batteries,power wise. You should also get a wheelie bar. You WILL NEED IT beleave me it is awesome.It wheelies way too easly with either battery.It is water proof, but I have not tried it yet ( waiting for some snow ).Do not play around crowds of people or in the house,you will inflict some sort of damage.The speed is 35+ it says on the box, but with the new battery it might be more just unbeleaveable.I would recommend this truck and new battery kit to eveybody who is into or is just getting into rc trucks. the price for everything I purchased was $330.00.I didn't want to spend that much, but it was well worth it. I'm 38 years old, bought this to spend time with an 11 year old, and this thing is AWESOME! I know it's an "entry level" upgradeable r/c, and now I'm hooked. Something like this cost at least six hundred bucks when I was her age, and I never even asked for one because I knew we couldn't afford it. DON'T spend a hundred bucks on some piece of crap from Wal Mart or Radio Shack, it's NOT worth it, this can't be touched for the money. You need some space to run it, grass is probably not good in large doses, the motor gets pretty hot. Full speed on pavement or dirt and it stays cool to the touch. Check You Tube videos, "Stock Traxxas Stampede". It's a great way to spend time with a 10 to 12 year old, I set it up for her which takes about two minutes, and supervise play, give pointers, etc. This thing IS fast, and could definitely hurt somebody in a collision. It's tough, I've flipped, rolled, and wrecked it way more than she has, just avoid dead on front end collisions and your'e fine. I see now I'm going to have to get the wide front bumper and wheelie bar, and probably buy myself a Stampede VXL! Sweet jumps too, be careful with that.

this thing is great. if you have $200 for an rc car this is the one. it goes very fast. it does wheelies right out of the box.it workss really well off road to. i really recommend buying this product.

I purchased the Stampede XL-5 for my 5 year old son for Christmas. It is a fantastic, durable toy that has provided hours of enjoyment for our whole family. Unfortunately, after a few days of driving, the steering servo suddenly stopped functioning properly, and the wheels were locked in a hard-steer. I placed a call to Traxxas support (1-888-TRAXXAS) and explained the problem to the service representative. Without a moment of delay, the rep asked for my address and told me that a replacement steering servo would be in the mail that very same day. I couldn't believe that the company would react so quickly and decisively to stand behind their product. This simple act makes me a loyal customer to Traxxas.

Don't get me wrong, this truck is a BLAST. However, we've gone through 3 motors for this truck. First one was a 'bad batch' from the factory. When I called Traxxas (888-TRAXXES)they where very helpful. They gave me advice on gear slack, burning in the motor, and shutting it down to cool off the motor.

Ok, we did all of the above and my son burned out yet another $26.99 motor.

This R/C is amazing i purchased a few rc cars in my time and this is the king of them all i got it for my son and i to have more fun. This truck is the real deal i've never known a toy that can handle so much aggressiveness i took it to a skate park and immediatly jumped it off a 20 foot ramp the car flew like my dirtbike i was stunded when it landed on all fours and took off this is an amazing product and now its affordable too i encourage any hobby nut to try this, im already looking at upgrades and different frames its a great idea and not just something to play but a new area of excitment

This was my first hobby grade RC Truck and it is a blast. However after only about five runs the Titan 550 motor went bad. Second motor lasted about 8 runs and yes I properly broke in the motor that time. Third motor lasted around 8 runs again. So I finally decided to convert it over to a VXL brushless set up and man what a difference. I have lost count on how many times I've run the truck and no issues at all. It is much much faster and if you are thinking its to fast for a kid, it probably is. However you can set it to beginner mode and it cuts the speed down in half. The VXL version of this same truck in only $100 more and it is very well worth it. If you upgrade after the fact like I did it will cost you an extra $150 so it better off to simply get the VXL version to begin with. After I did some internet research I found out that almost everyone burns these stock titan brushed 550 motors up constantly.

Final Verdict for me is Great Truck but horrible stock motor.

I read reviews on this truck and others before purchasing, and I'd have to say the ones for this truck are right on the money. Fantastic buy! Hours of fun, great product, easy to learn to use (for new drivers), reasonal price range.

Remember back when you were a kid and your parents bought you an RC car from walmart? This isn't that car, This is the real deal and rugged. Drive it through snow, puddles, mud, you name it and it'll rip through it like nothing. Highly recommended with extra battery pack and EZ quick charger.I'll update my review as I use the model more but so far, I'm blown away.
