5.0 out of 5 stars Eminem's Best Song, March 14, 2001
By
This review is from: Stan (Audio CD)
"Stan" is the best Eminem song of all time, but it's only good with Dido. Elton John sounded completely wrong with Eminem. It is one of the few songs with some meaning. It's about a crazed fan who idolizes Eminem so much that he actually kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend. Sometimes I wonder where the idea came from.... Dido's song "Thank You" is mixed in with Eminem and her stirring voice and poignant lyrics really make the song. Overall, a triumph, a little on the long side, though >Over 6 minutes!

5.0 out of 5 stars The musical world's answer to Heart of Darkness, March 10, 2001

Enimem is our worst nightmare when it comes to exposing the demons hidden inside the human soul. He is also one of the hottest rappers about, singing about subjects that most people would rather pretend didn't exisit. "Stan" is a combination of rap with the most haunting lyrics that you will ever hear, sung by Dido, to a tune that goes around and around in your head like a none-stop carousel. I wanted to hate this song when it came out. I mean a man killing his pregnant girlfriend? YEECH! was my first impression but then I saw the video and heard the song and I was totally hooked from the word go. "Stan" tells the story of obsession and violence as seen through the eyes of mentally disturbed young man who sees his life mirrored in that of his favourite rap artist. This is a kind of love story that is totally turned on its head and combined with Dido, it is a spectacular display of love, brutality and desire. I had to go out and buy Enimem's LP, secretly of course because how many women who are over thirty want to admit they are a fan of a chain saw toting young man with an attitude problem that would put Lucifer himself to shame? Ten out of ten for this hard-core rap song, and twenty out of ten for Dido's incredible backing vocals.

I first heard this song on Saturday Night Live and the song was transfixing! I had never heard of either Eminem or Dido, but I recognized it as a brilliant mixture of two very different musical artforms and artists. I Can't wait to see the video.
