James Adams is an optometrist living in Shreveport, Louisiana by way of Jefferson, Texas. As the eldest of nine children, he was always the responsible one, the go-to guy for his family. I STAND ACCUSED by Monica Frazier Anderson examines the affects of the sins of the father, whether negative or positive. James' life begins to spiral out of control with the reappearance of his high school sweetheart, the arrest of his brother, rumors about his sexuality and the continuation of a severe nightmare. What exactly happened the night his father died?

The author, Anderson, weaves back and forth between the present and the past, providing a developed storyline and dialogue between the characters which, at times, is humorous. Each sibling is highlighted then and now and there are many subplots, but not so much to add confusion. The story is of a serious nature, which begs your attention and curiosity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living in the Shadows, July 23, 2007
This review is from: I Stand Accused (Perfect Paperback)
I Stand Accused by Monica Frazier Anderson is a great novel outlining the details of a poor families strife. James was the eldest of nine children. Growing up he had to share a room, bed, clothes and everything he ever owned. Ready and willing to help his mother out to the fullest, James had to prove that he could be all that he could be so he set out to conquer the world. After his father's untimely death he had to step up and be the man of the house, working, watching his siblings and taking care of home. Did all of these extra responsibilities make James bitter? Will he be able to conquer all, or just head in the wrong direction due to, too much pressure?

Tracy is James' first love from middle school. Coming from a well-off family and being spoiled Tracy loved James unconditionally. Time and space separated the two and fifteen years later they were reunited. Will the sparks jump off for those two, or will there just be a fizzle?

James was very ambitious and grew up to be a respectable doctor, but he has a secret that is haunting him. Will he ever be able to live happily ever after, or will the burden of his dark secret hinder all that he has worked so hard to accomplish? Monica Frazier Anderson's I Stand Accused is a must read from beginning to end. Her fans will not be disappointed in this hit. I was held captive trying to figure out what the secret was only to be very surprised at the ending and all that this poor, unfortunate family endured. This was a great book; I look forward to reading more from Ms. Anderson.

When the past comes back to haunt you...

Everyone has a past; some more traumatic than others. Sometimes there are certain aspects of our past that we would honestly rather forget. But at the most inopportune times, skeletons we believe are long buried, manage to break free of their ghostly abodes, and torment us with their secrets and sins. In, I Stand Accused by Monica Frazier Anderson, main character James Adams, finds himself haunted by youthful indiscretions that just won't go away.

First, there's the drama of his philandering father who spends all his time at a local strip club where he's not just getting lap dances. When his father is savagely murdered, it's anybody's guess who did it and why. Then there are problems going on with several of his siblings, and a most embarrassing episode with his high school sweetheart, rocks his family's foundation to it's core. As soon as James graduates from high school, he shakes the hometown dust from his feet, ditches the East Texas twang, and becomes a successful ophthalmologist. He's enjoying his new life very much when the past rears its ugly head and forces him to deal with a lot of unresolved issues once and for all!

When I read Ms. Anderson's novel, When A Sistah's Fed Up last year, I was impressed with her skills as a new writer. With the publication of I Stand Accused, her excellent writing skills are again realized even more. The telling of this story -- with flashbacks to past and present occurences -- is done so effortlessly that readers never feel confused by all that is going on in the story. Ms. Anderson also manges to realistically portray the small country town in East Texas where James and his family were raised right down to the dialect! With the exception that this novel did not have as much suspense as I would have liked, I Stand Accused is solidly written -- engaging and entertaining! I definitely look forward to more literary endeavors from Monica Frazier Anderson.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read, November 26, 2007
This review is from: I Stand Accused (Perfect Paperback)
I read this book over a couple of days this weekend...wouldn't have taken so long but I had to stop and sleep at some point. I was drawn in by the characters as I really tried to understand why they acted responded related in certain ways. Not your typical romance suspense novel, will make you think and wondering what happens beyond the final chapter.
