5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie Nicks timeless classic, turned into hip hit
"Stand Back" is easily one of Stevie Nicks' most recognizable and popular songs. When it was first released back in 1983, it went to #5 on the Pop Charts. 5.0 out of 5 stars Stevie Nicks timeless classic, turned into hip hit, September 14, 2007

"Stand Back" is easily one of Stevie Nicks' most recognizable and popular songs. When it was first released back in 1983, it went to #5 on the Pop Charts. Now, nearly 25 years later in 2007 the dance remix reached #2 on the Dance/Club Play Charts. This simply proves the timelessness of Stevie's voice. One thing evident when listening to these remixes is that voice, is what makes the tracks. Sure the beats are cool, but Tracy Young and others have managed to mold Stevie's voice around the tracks, using effects and other techniques. Some vocals that were buried in the original "Stand Back" single/album cut, shine here, that I personally never even knew were there. The same thing was done to a cut from Stevie's 2001 solo album "Trouble in Shangri-La," a song called "Planets of the Universe" (Which was eventually nominated for a Grammy Award). Tracy Young was involved in those remixes as well.

This is a must have for all Stevie Nicks fans, as well as fans of Dance/Club music in general. I found myself dancing around in my car listening to this CD on the way home from work tonight. Stevie Nicks' power as a vocalist and songwriter is not limited to ballads and full-fledged rock songs, as we see here---you can also DANCE TO HER!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great For the Stevie Collector, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Stand Back (Audio CD)
I have to agree with other recent reviews. After 70 min of the same song with remixes that all sound a like, it gets a tad boring.
HOWEVER, if you love Stevie like myself and many others, you need this single. It's only a limited edition maxi-single, apparently they're only pressing 1000 copies so scoop it up if you can.
As for the remixes, I'm not really impressed. Radio edits should have been included or even remixes of other Stevie classics. I try not to complain much about any Stevie merchendise. So if your a Nicks fan or Dance fan, or both than jump on this cd.
*Remember, it's limited edition*

Huge Stevie fan, not a fan at all of today's dance music. However this being a Stevie related release it's essential to anyone's Nicks collection. To me these tracks all sound identical and I can't see anyone playing these over and over. Gone are the days of the 12" remix like they did in the 80's, THOSE I could get into. The remixes here are just very mechanical sounding. On some of them Stevie's original track almost seems to be thrown in as an afterthought. What makes this one a must have is it's already become tough to find. If you see it, pick it up, you most likely won't see it again. I have every Stevie single released going back to the "Buckingham Nicks" days, if you're like me, you want this too. And if you're like me, you'll give a spin once and then put it away. Of course if you like this type of music, you will probably love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dance Back, August 30, 2007

I must be getting old or bored with dance music. It's really hard to distinguish the difference between these 7 updated dance remixes of Stevie Nicks' Stand Back. They did try to preserve the original feel to the song without the dated electronical sound of the 80's. Instead it is the trendy electronical dance sound of the past 15 years.
There is no radio edit of 4 or 5 minutes here. The first mix clocks in at 11:26. The short version is the 3rd track "Tracy Takes Me Home Mixshadow" mix-6:53. My favorite would have to be the 5th track "Ralphi's Beefy Retro Mix" -7:30. It's clear, direct and a little retro.
This coincides with the release of Crystal Vison:The Best Of Stevie Nicks collection which includes the original version. After 70 minutes of remixes of the same song. I am tired...lol!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand Back is a hit all over again, August 28, 2007

In 1983, Stevie Nicks released the lead single from her second solo album, "The Wild Heart." The single was, "Stand Back," and it became a huge cross-over hit on the Billboard charts. Peaking at #5 on the top 100, and staying in the top ten for over two months, the song also hit the top 15 on Billboard's club charts, and hit the top ten on the rock charts.
Flash forward to 2007: Stevie approves some remixes of the song by various DJ's, and the tune is released to the club circuit and as a cd single and becomes a smash hit again. The remix by Tracy Young peaked at #2 in August 2007 on Billboard's dance club charts.
What is great about these new versions of this pop classic, is how the song is updated without taking anything away from it's original form. if anything, Nicks' vocals are brought more front and center here, especially in the "Tracy takes you home" version, which builds to a tremendous frenzy. These new versions of the song could very well sound like what the song might have sounded like if it were originally released brand new today.
I think this is a terrific item for Stevie Nicks fans like myself, and obviously for anybody who loves the remixes at the dance clubs.
Stevie Nicks is a legend and her music is, obviously relevant enough to warrant a re-release of one of her most popular songs, and become a huge hit again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Song Re-Imagined, November 29, 2007
This review is from: Stand Back (Audio CD)
Stand Back - written by Stevie Nicks and released as a single in 1983 - was and still is a stand-out song. One could actually call it a classic song and not be exagerating. With some uncredited backup help from Price, who Nicks has said helped inspire the song, Stand Back quickly became a hit. It's hard to improve upon a classic - just ask anyone who has tried and they will tell you it's a daunting task and one best not undertaken. What this collection of various versions of Stand Back is is a re-imagining that serves to bring the songs to modern dance club standards without diminishing the original piece. This is definitely a must have for Stevie Nicks fans who are open-mined enough to experiece a beloved song served in a different, more funky style.

4.0 out of 5 stars keep those remixes going, June 17, 2008
This review is from: Stand Back (Audio CD)
While I still prefer the remixes of "Planets of the Universe", any remix by La Nicks is worth hearing. I could not rest at night knowing I did not have this as part of my collection. Could a remix album be out of the question?

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Rockin!, March 3, 2008

You have to buy this if you are a true fan. Give the lady some support instead of all those bootlegs flying around! So what if there are 7 versions of the same song, that way there is bound to be one for everyone. I buy everything Stevie puts out, and I like to think thats why she is able to make more music for us to enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stand back - the Mixes, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Stand Back (Audio CD)
What is there really to say but this is an excellent group of mixes for one of her most popular songs (and my favorite) Stand Back. It has several different mixes some with more music then the actual lyrics being sung. The things remixers can do to a song will amaze you, especially how many different ways the song can be redone. I have a few favorites and you will to if your a true Stevie nicks fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Need To Have, October 10, 2007
This review is from: Stand Back (Audio CD)
This is a great remix - the one that should have been done 15 years ago, and now finally has been. A must for all Stevie fans. I like version 3 & 5 best. I'm not sure if these are all new vocals ala "Dreams" or just re-mixed?? I think they're new vocals.
