Original Soundtrack ~ Stand By Me

Amazon.com

This is one of those soundtracks that may have worked better during the vinyl era. Most of the tunes here (each and every one a '50s rock classic) are likely already in the CD collections of fans of this kind of music. That's probably the case with Buddy Holly, Ben E. King, the Del Vikings (two cuts here), the Coasters, Jerry Lee Lewis, and perhaps Shirley & Lee. It's probably not true of the Chordettes' "Lollipop," but that tune is used to such great effect in this terrific flick that you may just want to watch the video again. You can't go wrong with 10 feel-good classics. --Bill Holdship

I took a close look at the movie end credits to see what songs had been left off the "official original soundtrack" music CD. After trawling the Internet and a local Indie/used CD store, I came up with the following:

1)Red River Rock (Johnny & The Hurricanes, 1959)-Stands in for the orchestral version of "Stand By Me" as the newspaper headline "Local Attorney Chris Chambers Killed" appears.
2)Rockin' Robin (Bobby Day, 1958)
3)Sorry (I Ran All The Way Home) (The Impalas, 1959)
4)Mr. Lee
5)Rebel Rouser (Duane Eddy, 1958)-Stands in for "The Ballad of Paladin"
6)Great Balls of Fire
7)Whispering Bells
8)Let The Good Times Roll
9)Book of Love (The Monotones, 1957)
10)Lollipop
11)Everyday
12)Come Go With Me
13)Come Softly To Me (The Fleetwoods. 1959)
14)Hushabye (The Mystics. 1959)
15)Get A Job
16)Yakety Yak
17)Stand By Me

40 minutes, 40 seconds

In 1959, I was a tad younger than the characters in the movie, but I lived in a small town and roamed freely to places forbidden and dangerous as they did. My older sister was the 45RPM single collector. but the Doo Wop music of the era remains stuck in memory. I wouldn't mind visiting the town of the 1950's as an adult, but until/unless that becomes possible, this soundtrack takes me down the hill to our little town.

This cd is a great collection of what I think a kid in the 50's grew up listening to. They are all staples that you've always heard, and perhaps taken for granted. They are all classics. This is a wonderful collection. I'd give it five stars but it clocks in at 30 minutes.

Stand By Me is one of those films that if you were born in the late seventies early eighties, like I, you loved to watch simply because it was a coming-of-age film that we could relate to. I was born in 1980, so I would always see the film on television on the weekends. Rob Reiner created a masterpiece and the songs picked for the film are treasures that evoke that sense of nostalgia that movie fans long for. The soundtrack is wonderful. "Ben King's Stand by Me" is powerful when played in the end as the credits role. Perhaps no eyes are dry in that incredible moment. I know mine aren't.

This soundtrack has to be one of the best movie soundtracks that I've ever seen. You could not have picked better songs! The movie has been one of my favorites since the first time I saw it, and I still watch it often, in fact, I just watched it this afternoon, which is why I thought to check this out. I am VERY impressed with the movie, the soundtrack, the whole idea of this. If you don't have this cd, you MUST get it. It, as the movie, hits you straight in the heart.

It is a great movie, which makes it a great soundtrack. When I can't watch the movie, I just listen to the soundtrack and I get reminded of how great the movie is.

I'm not much of a '50s rock fan, but "Stand By Me" is one of my favorite movies, so I had to get this soundtrack. The music on here is ok, but the main reason why I gave this CD a "5" is because of the memories I have of certain scenes. These scenes are enhanced by songs like "Great Balls of Fire" by Jerry Lee Lewis (Ace and his friends playing mailbox baseball in their car), "Let the Good Times Roll" by Shirley and Lee (Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern flipping coins in the junkyard), "Lollipop" by The Chordettes (Teddy and Vern singing this song on the railroad tracks), "Everyday" by Buddy Holly (the four guys walking on the tracks, just moments before the infamous train scene), and, of course, "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King, the song this movie was named after.
"Stand By Me" is a remarkably short soundtrack--it's just under 30 minutes. This is mainly due to several songs being omitted that played during the movie, like "Rockin' Robin" (at the beginning of the movie, in the tree house), "Book of Love" (Ace and his friends hanging out, scarring each other with razors), and "Come Softly to Me" (the background campfire song), just to name a few. Why these three songs weren't included is beyond me; they're really good. Even so, this is still a good soundtrack and worth a listen if you're a fan of the movie and/or love pop/rock music from the 1950s.

these songs are great, I'm only fifteen, but I love these oldies, they make me wanna go back to the fifties, really. I first saw the movie and now it's my favourite movie of all times. The actors are just amazing!!!! Everybody should hear this soundtrack, really, the songs are great, Stand by me is sooo beautiful, Everyday touches me every day! And Come go with me is probably my favourite!!

Does anyone know how I could get my hands on the actual score or the theme of this movie? It is the quieter symphonic music that plays in the beginning and throughout parts of the movie.
