5.0 out of 5 stars Endearing and entertaining
I really enjoyed this book. Even though there are some predictable moments in the story line and you feel that Chelsea is sometimes a mite selfish, you do get your money's worth. There is humour, excitement, a good dose of sexual tension and the most adorable male character .... Johnny is almost everything that you could want in a man right down to the fact that he can...

My favourite Brockmann so far. This is funnier and easier to enjoy than her SEAL series (all those guys seem to lack a few social skills!). The main bone of contention of careers and compromise is all too familiar!

5.0 out of 5 stars good characters, October 26, 1999
By A Customer
Most modern women want a fair relationship, but have to compromise the fairness in order to get a good relationship. Romance novel often encourage this compromise. This book is not the same, it said out what the woman wants in an honoust way, and the male character in the story is a very reasonable man, not some arrogant male often admired by the other authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story, December 8, 2009
This review is from: Stand-in Groom: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I've been waiting and waiting for this book to be re-released. It was so worth the wait.

Johnny is a dreamboat even though it's hard to believe anyone could be that sexy, sweet and understanding. Hey, that's why you read fiction though, right? If you want a feel-good read that's quick, this is your book. I really liked it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good love story, January 24, 2010

This review is from: Stand-in Groom: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
I was worried when I read in the opening credits that this was a re-issue by Bantam. Usually that means they went back to a writer's earlier books to capitalize on that writer's current success. In my experience, these books are often choppy, underdeveloped, and lacking in many ways. I am so happy to say that this is a book that DESERVED to be re-issued.

It is a witty, joyful, uplifting, story. It involves two characters who come together to share and overcome their fears. Both characters are portrayed well and Johnny is a man I would love to marry. He is so patient and understanding and I would love to have him cook a meal for me as his food sounded as good as his lovemaking.

A great book to curl up with along with a steamy cup of cocoa and a roaring fire.

This is definately fiction. Johnny is wonderful, precious and understanding. He is marring her for financial gain, only he's not sparks fly and there are some predictable moments. But this is a feel good book so if you just want to smile and say yes that was great, read it, its alot of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, humorous, witty, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Stand-in Groom: A Novel (Mass Market Paperback)
This was great while it lasted. I enjoyed the pace that was slow when it needed to be, but didn't have unnecessary filler just to make it seem substantial. The ending was unique and not one I had come across before. It was also modern and fun. Absolutely wonderful!

I really enjoyed this book. I don't like long hair on guys, but other than that - loved the male MC. (and why do so many books have covers that look nothing like the characters??? ugh) The plot set up allowed for some great situations. All in all, a very good read. FYI - "The Kissing Game" by this author is also good.

I just started reading some of Brockmann's earlier works after reading the Troubleshooter's series over and over again. I love her books and this one was no exception. The real difference between this earlier work and some of her newer works is they're longer so you have more time to get to know the characters. However, there wasn't a part of this book that I disliked.
