Another Triumph!, September 24, 2003
This review is from: Stand (Audio CD)
Another tasty record from Pete and Maura! After three listens in 24 hours, Stand strikes me as another fine example of their exploration of, and admiration for, a variety of pop genres.
The opener, "Dharma Cafe" rings with the electric twelve string. Their cover of the Nields' "Easy People" is among their finest jangly work. "Raindrops" has really kept me hitting the repeat button, because it reminds me of a song buried deep in my recall, but I can't figure out which one! Dave Carter's "When I Go" closes the twelve track record on a reflective note.
On a number of tracks, Pete's voice is, happily, given more prominence in the mix than on some of their other recent albums. Their harmony always sounds terrific.
A nice, somewhat more relaxed sounding follow up to Get It Right!
Here's hoping we see them tour the Midwest soon!
