This review is from: Stand My Ground 2 (Audio CD)
This immortal single from Within Temptation's third studio album, The Silent Force, is a powerful tour-de-force that weaves pure energy with unforgettable lyrics and a true strength that pushes listeners to never, ever give up. Since the single's release, "Stand My Ground" has become a signature song for the band, and even made it into their seriously epic Black Symphony concert.
Starting simple and light, "Stand My Ground" quickly moves into heavier, more powerful territory with rocking guitar riffs. All, of course, led by Sharon's vocals filled with raw power and inspiration. Seriously, her serious power here is amazing, and gives the listener something to sing to, remember and ultimately adapt as a personal anthem.
There are a few different versions of this single out there, including an exclusive maxi-pack. The version here is the basic one: it includes the single and album versions of "Stand My Ground," the haunting "It's the Fear" "Swan Song" and B-sides "Overcome" and "Towards the End."
While virtually all of these songs are available on other releases, this is the first release of "Overcome." "Overcome" is another inspirational ballad, but definitely feels weaker than many of the other songs on The Silent Force. Then there's "Towards the End," an orchestra-powered ballad infused with strength and classy pizazz. Honestly, "Towards the End" has kind of been a lesser known song until WT preformed a fabulous acoustic version of the song on their "An Acoustic Night at the Theatre" album, which really gave this emotional song the attention it deserves.
Mostly for WT collectors, but the best single offering of "Stand My Ground." Overall though, I'd say skip the single and just pick up the albums, especially "An Acoustic Night at the Theatre."
