I love that song. I heard it in high school, when King first sang it. I was one of the kids in the great movie Stand By Me, but you'll have to guess which one. Actually I'm sure I played every role, good guy and bad, sometime or other. That movie, and that song, was the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the USA in the 1950s. I've bawled or bellowed that song in taverns, youth hostels, senior centers, grass shacks, and castles -- literally! Ben E. King had a spark of musical genius in his gravelly voice.

I'm writing this review now to call attention to a performance of 'music around the world' on youtube - Stand By Me sung simultaneously on every continent. I'll put the e-address in a comment below.
