My instructors keep adding books that need to be purchased halfway through the quarter so I went with the cheaper version. First, I wanted to save some money. Second because I thought the spiral binding of the professional edition would get caught going in and out of my backpack. However, I like the thumb indexes and color of the professional edition much better. The pages in the standard edition are simmilar to newsprint stock which makes it seem far cheaper than its price would suggest.

I'd spend a little more money on something so vital to coding (especially if you are studying for your certification exam!) and go with the most current professional edition. While I was in classes I wanted to go for the cheaper options, so I bought this Standard Edition. After I saw my classmates' professional edition, though, I wished I would have just spent a little more and bought the Professional edition! The Standard edition is all black and white with no illustrations, while the Professional Edition has color coded sections, tabs, and MANY helpful illustrations with captions that make understanding procedures and medial devices easier. It also helps that the headings of sections are often in color, because in my standard edition I'd gone through the manual highlighting like crazy. I'm not saying the Standard edition is bad, it's just that the Professional edition is so much better for not much more money. So if you are wanted to get your certification, are a visual learner, or just want the design of your manual to be more helpful, go with the Professional edition. The Standard edition gets the job done, but I'm sure you'd be a more efficient, knowledgeable coder using the Professional edition.

I recommend this site amazon for anyone in school. Definitely save a TON of money through amazon. I did not want to buy books from school since they were priced at $200 and it is an old book that I would probably not use again after school so why buy it? I think I rented this book for $1 and it was like $2 shipping so I saved over 200% already and not to mention the books at my campus bookstore were on backorder so I got my books before the rest of my class and I was ahead of the game making sure I stayed on the Dean's List.

the standard edition does not have photos and explanations like the professional edition and the papaer is like newspaper where the ink rubs off on your fingers. I had to buy the professional edition. i wasted a lot of money on the standard.

The book was in good condition but "Standard Edition" means NO COLOR CODED PAGES which could make it difficult to find and look up medical codes. You need to make sure that you know what you are buying.

This book helps me to get the right CPT code without much difficulty. It is convenient to use and I like to have it close by when I have to look up my code numbers or verify a current number.

This book was required for my classes in healthcare coding, I used it multiple times and am still using it. It was cheaper then what my school offered and was the exact same.
