This is a really great butter dish for those who want a very practical and well designed dish. The bottom, where the butter stick sits, has a slightly raised edge, or well, so the stick will not slide off the edge when you're using it. This would also help contain any melted butter, if you're one of those who likes to leave the butter stick out of the refrigerator a lot. The lid fits well, so you can pick it up by the lid and it won't come off. This dish easily fits in the compartment in our refrigerator door and the lid is frosted, so it's clear enough you can see the stick inside. Although it's not a dish that you would buy for its looks on the table, it's about the best I've seen for ease of use and doing the job it's made to do. It's a great value for the price and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good way to keep butter sticks under control!

Having kids, I LOVE this butter dish. No breaking, lightweight, easy to clean. Ours got melted by being placed a little too close to a hot burner and we've been looking for a replacement for months. I teased that I'd try Amazon and there it was! I love the look of the more expensive butter dishes but this is just so functional that it's everybody's favorite.

Great product! Keeps butter protected from picking up other food orders while in the fridge and protected from insects while having meals on the deck.

Rubbermaid delivers again! This simple item, a plastic butter dish, comes complete with cover, is dishwasher safe, and is unbreakable. As with most Rubbermaid products, good design goes hand-in-hand with good function...and all at an affordable price.

At just under 2 inches, this butter dish is just wide enough for a cube of butter, with a tiny bit of wiggle room. That said, if you are a little shaky or careless putting the lid on when the butter is soft, you're in for a mess. Also, the place where the butter fits, the side walls are too high for the knife to go all the way through to make a clean cut. The walls are about 1/2 inch high, where the butter we use is about 1 1/2 inch. So all in all, it's pretty much a waste of money for us. Since I'm giving measurements, the inside length of space for the butter is around 6 inches. Outer dimensions are 3"x8" and 2" high

So after moving from the Eastern U.S. to California, I was surprised to find that the butter is shaped differently out here. Back east, it's longer and thinner while the "western-style" sticks are shorter and stubbier. Strangely enough, most of the butter dishes I could find were still made for Eastern butter, not Western. I used to have one of these back home and bought a new one for the new butter and was happy to see that it works with both shapes. As a previous reviewer mentioned, it is sometimes hard to cut cleanly through the butter because of the height of the lip, but it does keep the container sealed well, even when dropped.

I purchased two of these butter dishes. I have two kids and a semi-clumsy husband and needed something that could stand up to being dropped multiple times, and that had a secure lid. This butter dish fit the bill perfectly. It has a lip that keeps the butter from falling off of the dish and the see through lid is great when it's time see when I need to add more butter. I keep one in the fridge and one on the counter.

This rubbermaid butter dish is great for RV travel. It holds the butter good and is convenient for the fridge or on the counter.

I don't give five stars to many things, but this item, mundane though it may be, deserves that rating. It's not stunningly beautiful, but functionally it's first-rate. The top is tight enough to stay attached when you grab it to lift, but loose enough to come off without an argument. The butter "well" is deep enough to prevent sliding or melting accidents. And it's compact and lightweight. It's not a dinner party showpiece, but perfect for everyday use.
