5.0 out of 5 stars Not just another Chrysler book., October 9, 2007
By
Illustrator "Brad" (Mariposa California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Standard Catalog of 1950s Chrysler (Paperback)
The "Standard Catalog" series of books came out decades ago and were more than a little dry. Krause Publishing assigned various automotive writers with the task of spicing up the old books and providing new copy. Jon Robinson does a great job bringing in some new information and making it interesting to read. After contacting the author I realized the book was originally to have been much broader in scope but was edited down. I appreciated the fact that Mr. Robinson went out and found so many interesting cars to photograph . Many beautiful restored examples are shown of some rare cars. What is interesting is that many original survivors are photographed as well. The close-ups of the trim details is a nice touch and the author has his own unique style of photography. There are still some factory stock photos and original ads that flesh out the character of the book.
I consider it a valuable addition to my automotive library and have use it on many occasions to research my own illustration work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Covers all 50's Mopars not just Chryslers!, July 21, 2011

This review is from: Standard Catalog of 1950s Chrysler (Paperback)
This is a great general guide to the history of all of Chrysler Corporation's products during the 1950's. The book is organized into sections by marque. In general the book well written and well illustrated with reams of detailed specifications. All of the photos are correctly identified and there is real information on the development and relationships between these cars. There is wealth of information here, my only complaint being almost all of the late 50's Chryslers shown are letter cars to the exclusion of the more common New Yorkers, etc. As the letter cars styling changed very little after 1956 this leaves a gap in the design story. They might should have had their own section.
