Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Vintage Japanese cycles are the very bikes many motorcycles enthusiasts grew up buying, fixing and riding, and aspire to own again.

Production figures contained in this one-of-a-kind book are key to accurately identifying parts during repair and renovation.

Motorcycle ownership in the U.S. is on the rise, and with Honda owning the bulk of the market, a full-service book on Japanese bikes is long overdue, whether you're a rider, experienced restorer and collector. Standard Catalog of Japanese Motorcycles covers nearly 50 production years of the Japanese "Big 4" companies - Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and Suzuki in one phenomenal package containing aftermarket pricing, technical data including engine type and horsepower, for bikes up to the 1990 models

About the Author
Doug Mitchel spends his life surrounded by engines and exhausts, where he captures the essence of cars, bikes and more with his photography. He’s the author of more than 20 books, including Standard Catalog of Harley-Davidson, Honda Motorcycles: The Ultimate Guide, and Anatomy of a Chopper.

1.0 out of 5 stars Loaded with Inaccuracies!!!!, August 19, 2008
This book is so inaccurate it is ridiculous. I have had many vintage Japanese bikes and I know them so when I see how wrong this book is in so many areas it is just terrible. This book is hastily thown together to make money. It is very bad. It is not just poorly done it is very misleading with incorrect information thoughout.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Effort Falls Short, May 29, 2008
By D. M. Finch (Natrona Hts., PA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I purchased this unseen by mail and was rather disappointed. Anyone familar with motorcycles of the past 2 or 3 decades will find glaring errors of commission and omission. One example is that it states the Suzuki Intruder 1400, which everyone knows is a V-twin,was introduced in 1987 with the 1360ccV-4 engine; this error is repeated for every year 87-2005. Another is looking at Kawasaki 1995-96 they totally ommitted the GPZ1100(ZX1100 E1 & F1) models. I can understand gaps in research on the older stuff, but these were well documented only a few years ago! The color photos are first rate, but they include repeated views of the same bike: the 69-71 Hondas they picture the CB750 SIX times; in the 1989-90 Hondas the all new models introduction of the GB500, Transalp 600, ST1100 and PacificCoast800 and there are NO pictures?!
The repros of older magazine ads are a nice feature. This is a book if you can pick up on the half off bargin rack would be a nice find, but I regret paying top dollar for it.
