5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for Lionel and Toy Train Enthusiasts
Just received the new Lionel Reference book by Dave Doyle. This is a treasure. The book has more information packed between the covers than most any other toy train reference book. Outstanding pictures (kudos to his son for the pics) compliment the detailed descriptions of each item and the respective variations.

2.0 out of 5 stars No HO information at all
I found my old HO gauge train set in the attic and wanted to learn more about it. Reading the info about this book you would think it covered all Lionel train sets. The truth is there is info about all sizes except HO. If HO is your interest look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treasure for Lionel and Toy Train Enthusiasts, October 9, 2004
This review is from: Standard Catalog Of Lionel Trains: 1945-1969 (Paperback)
Just received the new Lionel Reference book by Dave Doyle. This is a treasure. The book has more information packed between the covers than most any other toy train reference book. Outstanding pictures (kudos to his son for the pics) compliment the detailed descriptions of each item and the respective variations.

The book is well thought out regarding how the different subjects are arranged. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Lionel trains.

My only regret is I did not find the pre-order form for the 1970-2004 edition ;)

Thanks David for a terrific addition to the LL (Licata Library).

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good reference book for the Lionel train enthusiast., August 24, 2006

This review is from: Standard Catalog Of Lionel Trains: 1945-1969 (Paperback)
This book is a must have for both the serious collector and casual Lionel train fan alike. The book gives good background information for each segment of Lionel train (locomotives, flat cars, etc.) as well as insightful commentary on each train car model. The pictures are excellent but if you are looking for detailed information on the parts and assembly of the trains then this book will not help.

That said, the book is highly recommended for the Lionel fan who wants to see the full lineup of Lionel trains produced (post-war) and their approximate values.

5.0 out of 5 stars A major 'must have' bible of information, February 2, 2007
Now in a newly expanded and updated second edition, David Doylle's "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains' showcases Lionel toy trains made from 1945 through 1969. Surveyed in an authoritative collector's reference this new edition packs over a thousand color photos with its expanded catalog , which includes variations on Lionel cars and accessories. Many collectors of Lionels will find come to consider this a major 'must have' bible of information, packing in color photos and charts of values for Lionel trains in all conditions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best, October 16, 2004
This review is from: Standard Catalog Of Lionel Trains: 1945-1969 (Paperback)
Without doubt this is the best new book for understanding Lionel Trains . The wealth of detail provided together with a rarity scale for each item should enable anyone to value their collection and ensure they know exactly what they own.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Reference, March 15, 2007
This is an excellent reference work. The layout of the book is easy to use and the pictures are first class. This book surpasses many of the standard reference works available. Makes a great addition to a reference library on Lionel Trains.

5.0 out of 5 stars MOST COMPREHENSIVE YET, October 25, 2004

This review is from: Standard Catalog Of Lionel Trains: 1945-1969 (Paperback)
THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK FOR THE LIONEL COLLECTOR AND ENTHUSIAST!

MY ONLY CRITICISM IS THAT SOME OF THE MORE IMPORTANT AND CLASSIC MODELS WERE GIVEN ONLY TINY PHOTOGRAPHIC COVERAGE. FOR EXAMPLE, THE PHOTO OF THE 773 HUDSON IS ABOUT 1/2" X 1" WHERE OTHER LESS IMPORTANT MODELS ARE GIVEN 1/8 OF A PAGE.

OTHER THAN THAT, THE BOOK IS GREAT AND VERY ENJOYABLE TO THUMB THROUGH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Indespensible, April 4, 2007
If you're a Lionel Train collector then the Standard Catalog of Lionel Train Sets, 1945-1969, by David Doyle, is a book you'll want to add to your personal collection. Paying special attention to "boxed" sets, the book includes virtually every train set produced and sold during the post war era. No train is left out.

Complete with full color photographs and terrific descriptions of the box containers as well as the train components this would be an invaluable book to keep with you when you attend a train show or make the garage (yard)sale circuit.

I suspect that the values included for each train is a conservative estimate.

Wonderful.

The best or one of the best Lionel guides to postwar Lionel trains. The only guide that authoritatively lists all production variations over the years covered.
