Product Description

The Standard Gage Value outside micrometer has a vernier scale in inch units for taking precise outside diameter (OD) measurements, and a ratchet-stop mechanism that helps provide uniform pressure during adjustment for precise, repeatable measurement. The The vernier scale on the thimble and sleeve is graduated to 0.0001”, with a satin chrome rust- and glare-resistant finish. The spindle and anvil have flat measuring faces and are carbide-tipped for wear resistance. A spindle lock helps provide secure locking of the measurement position. The micrometer comes with a fitted case for storage.

Micrometers are precision measuring instruments that use a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large rotations of the screw that are then able to be read from a scale or a dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing, machining, and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometer: outside, inside, and depth. Outside micrometers may also be called micrometer calipers, and are used to measure the length, width, or outside diameter of an object. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure interior diameter, as in a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height, or depth, of any shape that has a step, groove, or slot.

Standard Gage manufactures precision measuring equipment and metrology hand tools, and is a product line by Hexagon Metrology. Standard Gage is headquartered in North Kingstown, RI.

Hello,

This was a very necessary tool for use in my printing studio to measure the thickness of custom substrates I print on.
If to thick they will not go through my print I use to print my fine art prints. Also I wanted a tool that did not require batteries so I could use it on location when I teach workshops and have one less worry. It was affordable and is well made, comes in a case and should last a long time with minimum care.

I've only tested it with the standard that was included, and another from the same manufacturer/seller, but the build quality seems to be good, the anvils are polished and parallel within my ability to check, and they measure within 0.0001 of specification at 3.9999 for a 4" standard and 5.0001 for a 5" standard.

Can't beat the price. Comes in wooden box with calibration standard and adjustment tool and worked well for my application.
