5.0 out of 5 stars Standard Guide to American Muscle Cars
Overall a very informative book on muscle cars from the '60's to the '90's. It's an excellent start for us younger people to learn about the older muscle cars that we didn't get to see as we were growing up. This book covers most of the significant muscle cars that have come out of America from the years 1960-1995. If you are interested in buying a muscle car but...

When one purchases a "Standard Guide", one would expect a thorough and accurate accounting of the subject. This book does not meet that minimum standard. The information provided as to model information is shoddy and poorly researched. Production numbers are inaccurate, photos are of poor quality and in some cases, identifying the wrong vehicle. One need not be a gearhead to identify or grasp the magnitude of the errors made in this reference guide. For example Steve McQueen DID NOT drive a Charger in "Bullitt". The lack of proofreading and research evident in this "Standard Guide" is an affront to educated automobile afficiandos everywhere.

Pretty good book in that it covers a lot of muscle cars and a long time span. I like the way the book uses many original ads and it is fairly complete in its coverage. I would like to see better pictures and more proofreading. I noticed that some of the information about certain cars is incorrect or transposed. It also appears that some of the picture captions are not associated with the proper picture.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, May 10, 2004
This book is alright. Although not entirely accurate, its OK for someone new to muscle cars. Most of the muscle cars are covered and all have descriptions of there different models. There is also a price guide in the back for those interested in specific models and years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could've Been Worse, September 27, 2005
I liked it but it's an introduction not a comprehensive, in-depth analysis regardless of what the title says. Beware of pretty covers and sugar coated words when buying books. As the one reviewer states "not accurate" but it's worth looking into if you're new to the muscle car genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars A commendable effort, June 27, 2002

I too enjoyed the original print ads for a great many of the cars shown. And the information is generally reliable as well. Although one should keep an open mind. In the section covering the 1968 Dodge Charger R/T the editor states that this is the car driven by Steve McQueen in "Bullitt." This, of course, is not true as McQueen drove a Ford Mustang fastback; the mafia hitmen drove a black Charger 440 R/T.
