Product Description

Standard Horizon Quest - X Class D DSC VHF Fixed - mount Radio for serious sail and power boaters. Stay safe while navigating coastal waters. Specifically designed for marine use, the Quest-X is factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels, keeping you fully informed of all the latest oceanic activity. The Quest-X also meets the internationally recognized requirements for Digital Selective Calling (DSC), which allows you to send a distress signal at the touch of a button or exchange position information with other boats or stations. DSC activates a continuous, unattended "mayday" signal that identifies your vessel, reports your latitude and longitude, and gives the time. So it's got all the bells and whistles. That doesn't mean a thing if it takes an engineering degree to operate. Luckily, the Quest-X is a breeze to use thanks to the large, backlit LCD display which offers tall, wide digits and obvious, easy-to-identify information flags. And the whole thing is submersible! Even after a complete drenching, the Radio keeps talking. Don't leave port without yours! Details: Submersible Radio measures 7 x 3 x 6"; Factory programmed with all U.S., Canadian, and international marine channels; Picks up 10 weather channels from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA); Audible weather alert tone and visual alarm; Microphone incorporates Standard Horizon's ClearVoice noise reduction technology, which eliminates unwanted background noises such as engines and wind; Digital Selective Calling (DSC), which allows you to send a distress signal at the touch of a button or exchange position information with other boats or stations; Accepts a second-station RAM+, RAM3 microphone, or VH-310 style telephone handset (not included)... allows full control; Dual Watch mode for monitoring one user-selected channel at the same time as emergency channel 16; Priority Scan mode for scanning any combination of channels along with a priority channel

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent radio, and works well with others., March 6, 2008
This radio was bought to replace the Icom IC-M602 radios used on board some commercial ships. The problem with the Icom was the lack of RF shielding. This unit does not interfere with any other radios, has DSC capability and great audio. DSC wiring is simple and straight forward. Nice bright display matches Vertex radios and unit is rugged. Screen size is not the largest but shows everything you need without going through menu screens. Solid performing radio. Get black for UV resistance and a cooler look.

I bought this to replace the older ICOM on the bridge of my 46' Ocean Alexander. The installation was a snap and the smaller size is really nice. The transmission and reception quality seem very good and the ability to change channels with the microphone itself is a great feature. I haven't hooked it up to the GPS yet but that seems pretty straight forward...except for fishing the wires around.

I would highly recommend the radio to anyone looking for some good quality with the updated bells and whistles at a very reasonable price.

Radio arrived quickly and in perfect condition. Unit was easy to install and connect to my Humminbird gps fishfinder. Appears to be of good construction. I partcularly like the slide over cover that can be used to protect the radio from dirt and abuse when the boat is not in use.
