Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Standard LED Lighting AF-T8/15 Redwood LED Tube Light, 1 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased two of these bulbs to replace a fluorescent fixture in our garage. Had to remove two ballasts, and the starter, then wire up the house directly to the end sockets. This wasn't a big deal, and I could reuse the existing wire in the fixture just adding some wire nuts. I wish there were a better way to dispose of old ballasts and starters. It took me about 45 minutes to take down the fixture, pop open the end caps (which was the hardest part due to the plastic snap on to metal tabs), cut the wires to ballasts and starter, remove them from fixture, splice wires, reassemble, test, and hang back on ceiling. The tubes are wired in parallel with the incoming hot going to one pin, and the incoming neutral going to the opposite pin on the same tube, repeated for each tube.
I tried to find a new fixture without the ballast and starter, (So I could drop in the LED tubes and not have to reconfigure the wiring) but I don't think anyone sells them like that (yet?) because of the expectation to put fluorescent tubes in them. I was very impressed with the amount of light/brightness these tubes have. I was skeptical when purchasing, but they are great on implementation. I think it may be more brightness than my other FL tube fixture in the garage. The only reason I don't give the product 5 of 5 stars is the cost. While Amazon's price is great relative to other sources on the Web, we're still paying an "early adopter tax" to use this technology before it becomes mass market. That said, someone has to buy them now so they will make more of them in a more efficient manufacturing process, and become less expensive in the future.
