The Standard & Poor's 500 stock index is among the most watched averages on Wall Street. This index can be used by the investor as a gauge to show how ones investments measure up.

The book is soft covered, 8 1/2" x 10.8" x 1.7" THICK. After 31 pages that itself contain a very informative introduction, each of the Standard & Poor's 500 stocks are spanned in description across two full pages. That accounts for 1,031 pages of data and there is nothing one could possible need to know (about each of the stocks) that is not listed. However, as the book wears with time, discovering fresh data is left to the investor. Standard & Poor's provides a phone number offering up-to-date stock reports that can be purchased at a nominal price. After a few months, I took S&P up on the updates and discovered updated information--updated to the day--a continued goldmine.

Stock performance is shown for the last twelve months together with an estimated projection of earnings and a target stock price. An overview of each corporation; its core business (sometimes broken into national and international sales), balance sheet and cash flow data and of importance per share data for the last ten years including dividend payments. And of course, Standard & Poor's stock rating; one through five stars.

Years ago I subscribed to the S&P Stock Guide, a monthly publication that cost three dollars or thirty six dollars a year and I miss it. However, the Standard & Poor's 500 stock index publication is enough for me and contains complete data on each of the 500 stocks. (The Stock Guide contained only one line of fundamental data.)

Albeit, this gold mine is limited to the 500 stocks of the Standard & Poor's index, but when I think about it, "How many stocks does a person need to be concern about or own, anyway?"

I definitely recommend this book as a must for serious investors--beginners and old timers alike.

A fine paperback version as usual. However, the ebook version (at extra costs) is a mess. Shame on all those lazy publishers.
And then read this on an iPad retina .... never buying anything like that again .

The Kindle version of Standard and Poor does NOT include an index or tables of contents making this Kindle version totally USELESS!.....do not buy unless you want to search page by page!......
