Standard Price Guide to U.S. Scouting Collectibles

Over the years there has been many booklets and publications written on various aspects of Scouting Memorabillia & Collectibles. Far from just being about patches, the enjoyable hobby now covers almost a century of gear, literature, and some very highly priced items. With over 5 million current members and many more alumni in the United States alone, it is no wonder that Scout antiques and collectibles has spawned a community of full time dealers and thousands of Trade-O-Rees, web sites, and auctions.

Unfortunately most of the published literature that has been printed were either on obscure topics or covered only one small aspect of collecting like "Order of the Arrow Lodge Flaps" and nearly all of them looked like someone printed them in their basement on the same printing press that B-P must have used when he started the Scouting movement.

Kraus Publications is a major publisher on a wide range of Collectible topics that go way beyond Scouting. George Cuhaj is a Scouter himself and he has, if nothing else, been the first person to write a professional looking book that bridges the area of Scouting Collectibles to the much larger community of antiques and Collectibles dealers & collectors of all types.

Don't think of this book as having photos or even listings of every patch, artifact, pin, or mug. Were one person to undertake such an effort it would fill an entire encyclopedia of books. The prices quoted in the book may or may not be accurate for a given item, especially with the explosion of new trading & biding done on Amazon & eBay auctions. Certanly there are those in the Scout collecting community with a much more detailed knowledge of the hobby than Cuhaj, unfortunately their expert skills did not transcend to graphic design & publishing as well.

Having reviewed more than four dozen books dealing with some aspect of Scout Collectibles, I have to say this book might be the best single purchase of any of them for someone who wanted a general overview of Scouting.

It is user friendly, well illustrated, and with a sharp cover, it is the kind of item that would not embarrass a Scout Shop manager if they had it in their store or for a Scouter adding a book to the Troop Library.

What a great resourse book. A must have for the avid collector or the novice. Besides collecting, it is a great companion piece to learn about the Boy Scouts and 20th Century Americana in general. I commend Mr. Cuhaj for all the work and time he put into creating this. I'm so glad some one thought enough of me to make this a perfect gift for the Scouter who has everything.

This is an excellent book for anyone who collects Boy Scouts of America memorabilia such as insignia, pins, books, Order Of The Arrow, just about anything that has been involved in Scouting. It details many items extensively, and provides price ranges based on condition. The first edition did not have an index, and it was rather difficult to find certain items, but Cuhaj corrected that in this second edition. The magnitude of this book is tremendous, providing over 11,000 listings, most with values for buying, selling, or just trading. There are a few pages in color, while the rest is in black and white. I would have preferred all items in color, and would have been willing to pay more for the book. If Scouting memorabilia is your forte, I highly recommend this book with a 5-Star rating.

The first edition was the answer to a new collector's prayers and the release of the greatly expanded second edition was timed perfectly to take me to the next level in this increasingly popular field of collecting. This book brings together a broad range of information that earlier had only been available to collectors willing to seek out a daunting number of specialty publications, usually at considerable cost. I would highly recommend this new edition not only for beginning collectors, but also for the more advanced collector who needs a broad reference to the panoply of Scouting collectibles. Finally, I think most readers will enjoy the author's personal touch, including images from his boyhood Scouting experience. They certainly evoked fond memories of my own early Scouting days.

This is the 2nd, updated edition of the popular volume. Its 400 pages feature more than 750 nice black and white photos and a 16 page full color section. There is adequate text to accompany the photos, and it is fully indexed to aid in item location. All major levels of scouting are featured, along with collectibles, council listings, glossary of terms, memorabilia dealers, collector organizations, museums and reference works. It's an essential guide for scout collectible enthusiasts.

Greetings, well, it is back, bigger and with lots more photos. What has become the identification and price guide for scouting collectibles has been doubled in listing size as well as photographs for ease of identification. While weekly auctions may be skewing the price system, it is a great starting point. The Merit Badge section, and the book sections have been completely revised.

Items most commonly found in family colelctions or in antique malls are covered. Listings frist by Scouting Division - Cub, Boy, Sea Scout... then by type of item - rank badges, badges of office, uniforms. Extensive listings of rank patches, medallions, merit badges and merit badge books, Handbooks and fiction books. Written descriptions and clear illustrations. Range price system employed. Does Not Cover Council Shoulder Strips issued since 1972, or Order of the Arrow Lodge Flaps (there are specialized books already for these areas) It does include a listing of scout councils and OA lodges.

The book is of graet walue to me. Am looking for a book on Scout knives. I saw on on E-bay titled "^00 Scout Knives" by Joseph Kerr, but I missed it. Is ther any way I can find out more about thr book?
