That's Tommy Flanagan!, November 23, 2011
This review is from: Standard (Audio CD)
I'm biased, or at least I can't recall hearing a Tommy
Flanagan album I didn't like. I simply can't always
be comparing one to another. Perhaps if I did, I could
adjust the ratings on some. Yet, not all of us are
born to make lists. Rather, I have listened very well.
This particular import from BMG Japan grew on me. At
first, alas, I might have said some of the tracks had
been covered better by Tommy on other albums. Yet,
over time I was drawn back to these particular covers
of standards (that's Tommy is it not). And so, over
time that tendency to rate one over another broke
down. This album is simply a pleasure to listen to,
and, is sorely lacking information. Frankly speaking,
that was all I set out to write of when I began so
here goes:
Tommy Flanagan (p) Reggie Workman (b) Joe Chambers (d)
recorded 2/14/80 N.Y.C.
Side A)
1. Softly As In A Morning Sunrise
2. Night In Tunisia
3. Some Day My Prince Will Come
Side B)
1. Autumn Leaves
2. It's All Right With Me
3. Angel Eyes
4. Straight No Chaser
Playing time about 42 minutes.
