Editorial Reviews

Review

Tom's book should be distributed in classrooms. Not only would the students easily understand how we got to where we are, but it would serve them as a mastery toolbox to set sound financial foundations for their future. ----Mario P. Cloutier, Founder and CEO Xclamation Marketing and BoostAnyBusiness.com

The lack of jargon and overly-technical terms and concepts make this book worth the read for those who are not Finance MBAs. ----Gregg Sinsbury, CFP Blue Chip Financial

Standing in the Rain illustrates how so many people have not lived within their means and financial markets aided and abetted them. Tom is able to cut through the gloom and recognize the lessons learned that may come out of this. ----Jeff O. Henley, Chairman, Oracle Corporation

Product Description

Standing in the Rain takes a detailed, up-to-date look at the current financial crisis by addressing three pertinent questions:
How did we get here?
How do we get through this?
What will the other side look like?

Standing in the Rain makes the complex crisis approachable and offers a well-rounded perspective from a seasoned financial authority. By providing a clear analysis of the situation, Thomas J. Powell pulls from his extensive background in banking, lending and investing to supply extraordinary insight into the current financial struggle. Throughout the book, Powell offers a variety of accurate information and aims to lend valuable advice for learning from the past, understanding the present and preparing for the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!, July 12, 2009
Tom Powell has written the perfect book for the layperson who really wants to understand the genesis of the current financial crisis, the implications on your life and how to prosper in this tough time (my favorite part!). The book is an interesting and easy read as Tom has included many examples, analogies and relevant stories to educate the reader. As someone who never took an economics course, this book helped me to make sense of the current financial struggle. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some sage advice about actions to take now to create a positive outcome for the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Standing in the Rain: Understanding, surviving and thriving in the worst financial storm since the Great Depression, July 6, 2009
If you think reading a book about the current financial crisis must be boring and confusing you would be wrong about Standing In The Rain. I actually enjoyed reading this book. Not only that I understood it. Mr. Powell has a tremendous ability to take complex information and make it clear and easy to understand. It would be nice if text books were written in this manner. Beyond the factual information the author shines a light for each business owner and individual to clear a path, move forward and steer your way through this storm.

Let me be honest...I know Tom so not only am I "rating" his book, which is great, but I'm cluing you in to Tom. I think he might be one of the next important financial minds to follow and pay attention to. Standing In the Rain is just one example. Read it and see for yourself. Who cares about how we got here...it's about how we get out!
