4.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying, but don't miss out on "This Way"!, January 4, 2002
This review is from: Standing Still / Long Slow Ride / Stephenville (Audio CD)
Sure, this isn't my favorite song by Jewel. But this is Jewel we're talking about, what's really good for most artists is mediocre for her. Some people buy CD-Singles because they only want to own the song and aren't interested in the artist's other work. Like many people, the real reason I buy maxi singles is because I'm a huge fan of the particular artist, and want to own everything available from them - LPs AND singles. What I like about CD-singles is that they include tracks not available on the original album. In this case, this single includes "Standing Still" and two new non-album songs performed live on her guitar: "A Long Slow Slide" and "Stephenville, TX". The following 2 songs didn't sound anything like "Standing Still". They were both good songs, I like any Jewel song on a guitar! "A Long Slow Slide" had a gloomy tone to it, like "Amen" or "Passing Time". "Stephenville, Texas" had a happier, more optimistic sound. Of course, if you were to choose between buying only this or buying her latest album "This Way", buy the album. It's really good!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent additional songs, February 1, 2003

I agree with other reviewers, I also buy the singles because I am a big fan of the artist and that the singles contain previously unreleased songs. In this event, Jewel has added 2 truly excellent tracks. I feel like Jewel has gone back to her roots in these songs. I docked one star as I am not a massive fan of Standing Still. I do not feel it is part of her best work but still like it a lot. It just hasn't got the rawness that so much of early Jewel contains and that is the Jewel I really enjoy. Long Slow Slide is really trancing and gorgeous to listen to. Stephenville is fun and honest and I just love it. It reminds me of 'Sometimes it be that way'. It is like she is just telling this story about herself in this lovely ballad. Long slow slide is more about someone else. It is mysterious and poetic and soft. Stephenville is more up beat and enjoyable to listen to.

Recommend you buy it, in addition to other singles and of course, the album 'This Way'
