Bob Baldwin Should Be More Well Known,
By
This review is from: Standing Tall (Audio CD)
About 10 years ago, I took a chance and ordered a Bob Baldwin CD from one of those music clubs. Ever since then I've been a huge fan of his. Everytime I hear his CD's it amazes me why he is not more well known and featured more than he is on so-called smooth jazz radio stations. Perhaps the reason is Bob's music is really not so smooth. If you are looking for elevator music, this is not the place to go. However, if you want a CD that keeps your toe tapping and really sounds great, then look no further. One of Bob's moniker's is to re-make a song on each of his CD's and without fail, he takes it to another level. His re-dux of Everybody Love's The Sunshine (track 8) is outstanding...and it is about my 3rd favorite cut on the CD! Tracks 1,2,7 and 10 are some of the best stuff you'll hear anywhere. If you want a CD that you will not tire of listening to AND where the music gets and keeps you moving, look no further. Buy this CD and you too will become a big fan.

Dear Bob:You did it again! We are not worthy! Ohmygoodness! Standing Tall is off the hook!...P>This CD has a vocal track that was a nice surprise. I have to tell you, man, you picked my brain with "Too Late". ... "...too late, apologies and flowers just won't do. ...too late, but, I really miss you. ...too late I wasn't always true because I misunderstood you and now it's too late." Man, that's off the hook!!! "Too Late" brought tears to my eyes! For one, it's an absolutely great tune. Then Phil Perry sang the heck out of it. However, my favorite is the instrumental version (after hearing the vocal version first). ... The tribute to Sade and Joe Sample are excellent. They should be proud that you put together such excellent arrangements that capture the essence of their music, but, the tracks are still unique. On "It's a New Day", I feel the Sade bass line and your creativity working off of that. I also hear a hint of Roy Ayers' vibes in there, but, he wasn't listed on the credits. It was probably a true act of unselfishness. You bring out the best in other musicians much like Luther and Patty LaBelle do with their vocal counterparts. You have blended all your extremely talented friends together to create a masterpiece! It seemed like everyone was on one accord, one mindset, a single vibe. All attitudes were checked at the door and you all just got together and put together the best jazz CD of 2002 and maybe the best jazz CD for many years to come! "Standing Tall" is not only about lifting our head as a country in this post 9/11 era, but, about standing tall in the jazz world!! You are standing tall head and shoulders above the rest. Congratulations my brother!! You have done it again!! I wish you continued success. ..Your creativity and talent is a blessing to this world. Keep up the good work. You have the formula for success and you prove it with every product you put out!!

I've been listening to Bob Baldwin for over fifteen (15) years. I also have two other albums including this latest one.He is by far, the jazz of jazzman. This album captivates from the heart of music lovers and the smooth groove of jazz contemporary. For example, the song called "See You In Miami" is vintage Baldwin. Referring back to his early years as a young musician. I recommend this album to all music fans. Jazz or non-Jazz lovers.

New Listener, New Fan,

I first heard Bob Baldwin while in a record store's listening booth and was totally captivated by Baldwin's artistry. This is truly an album you can listen to and never get tired of. The title track grabs your attention right away and you realize you are patting your feet and moving your head thoughout the song. From there you can literally take your pick: His rendition of Roy Ayers' "Everbody loves the Sunshine" with help from Will Downing and Roy Ayers himself is just delicious. The smooth but funky "See you in Miami" is the epitome of jazzy soul. The tribute to Sade "A New Day" is just plain tight! I literally can't select a favorite. His tribute to Joe Sample is right on. I can go on and on but if you want to hear real contemporary keyboards, this is a must get. Everyone should have this release in their collection.

Magic hands-smooth groove!,

This is another Bob Baldwin classic!...a must have for your collection of smooth jazz-neo soul artists! This album has a diverse mixture of innovative arrangements and the remake of "Everybody loves the sunshine" is worth buying the album by itself. The man is underrated in the smooth jazz world-he has magic hands on the keys and he is a legend in this day and time. My favorites are tracks # 1, #8, #9 and # 10. Buy it , absorb it and groove to it!We saw him at the Croton Jazz Festival unveil this masterpiece. (...). Then move on over to "Standing Tall" and get your degree in the smooth grooves of this amazing smooth jazz album. Bob doesn't disappoint-he enlightens!

Bob Baldwin - Standing Tall.
Enjoyable contemporary jazz instrumentation. A bit of vocals included creating a light interplay of uptempo Jazz & soulful R&B. I know comparisons can sometimes be a can of worms, but some of the compositions reminded me of some of Joe Sample's more recent works(ala-Hippie on a corner). For me Baldwin was an unfamiliar artist, but the track snipets sounded good, so I purchased two of his CD's and neither disappoint, especially at Amazon prices. (The other CD - Chill-Bob Baldwin) Standing Tall would an excellent accompaniment to cooking, driving or staring out at a scenic vista. If you are a fan of jazzy up-tempo piano-keyboarding instrumentation then try it, you'll like it.
